The Jews & U.S. Presidents …in honor of Presidents Day 20 February 2012

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

We Jews have a long history – from George Washington until the present – President Obama, of interacting and being recognized by U.S. Presidents.  Washington and others began by acknowledging and recognizing the Jews contribution to this great nation. Additionally, many Presidents specifically defined the Jewish role in American life …making speeches and even noting in legislation our value as REAL Americans. Jews were often nominated for cabinet member position and of course, placed on the highest Court of the land – as members of SCOTUS [Benjamin Cardoza, etc.].  Many Presidents early on in this great nation’s history visited synagogues – most notably George Washington’s visit to Mikveh Israel in my beloved historical hometown of Philadelphia.

I write this today because even though we have not yet had a Jewish President [at least not one aware of or recognizing that fact], this country has had leaders from the first who embraced our contribution and value. May G-d Bless our President and ALL Americans!

P.S.     I might be persuaded to run – not sure a proud American Jewish Feminist Zionist like myself could get elected but damn I think I would do a great job. Shalom!
