Witnessing Love – Mary Frances and Dulce!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

… She’s a brawny girl, well built and tall and sturdy, and she will know how to keep her chin out of the mud with any knight errant .

— Sancho Panza, Don Quixote’s squire, says of Dulcinea, (namesake for the Dulce in this essay!)

Mary Francis & Dulce 2014

A beautiful intelligent vibrant woman adopts a beautiful intelligent vibrant dog and so it begins. A REAL love so evident that all who have the privilege of knowing this team are awed. Who are they you ask that seem to affect so many? Well simple and most important to me is that the woman, Mary Frances is my friend and Dulce was her companion … I hesitate to say her dog as that does not nearly describe how this relationship should be defined. Here I want to illuminate what I and so many others viscerally experienced in the company of this duo. I tell you without hesitation that my wonderful attorney gal pal Mary Frances and Dulce define the essence of love and you my many dear readers will be gladdened by reading their story.

Mary Frances Prevost is a talented California Attorney … Determined to defend those unjustly accused and one might say as Don Quixote tilt at windmills no matter the naysayers. One must not get the wrong idea here for my friend is equal part legal crusader and a woman both charming and full of life’s vigor – beautiful both in appearance and attitude Mary Frances can be that most effective of legal professionals in that the average individual full of misconceptions might think such a beauty incapable of REAL strength. Well that is the magic my dear readers. So it was that Mary Frances saw easily these same combined characteristics when choosing a dog to adopt – her name to be forever more Dulce.

Kind, watchful, smart, loving and full of  life Dulcinea “Dulce” Prevost was born 31 October 2002 and left us for heaven on 16 September 2014 as her Mother Mary Frances embraced this sweet being with the constant love that had been at the center of their relationship. Charm I tell you … Pure and simply there was charm in this sweet dog’s face and demeanor – evident in person and in photos there was no doubt Dulce had a presence that could captivate her audience. You see dog and owner alike here … Mary Frances and her beloved Dulce both charmers but there was more than just that which made Dulce unique. Soulfulness seen in Dulce’s eyes informed and instructed all who knew her that this being was full of that which G-d most loves – goodness in the deepest sense where only joy of living is the goal and therefore a gift bestowed on anyone who spent time in the company of Dulce.

Let me describe Dulce’s life … Well there was indeed the very best of everything. Home and hearth lovely and accommodating – with no expense spared. Daycare where Dulce’s other Mom as Mary Frances well describes to look after her and then weekends at the beach. The best health care, the best food, the best to be had in every single way is how Dulce lived – actually as well, if not better than many treat their human family members is the truth of the life sweet Dulce had with Mary Frances.  When illness came here too no expense nor option denied … My friend did not choose the easy way out – Dulce would be given many more good days because Mary Frances persevered at great effort and expense with treatment. These last days included extra trips to the beach and special treats and days where Mary Frances only focus was Dulce … I tell my friend that all of us wish for the same attention, devotion and care – complete and unselfish love as we face the end of our life here. We her friends all joined Mary Frances in prayers for Dulce – asking for miracles and comfort. I am proud to say that my friend made center to her life the love and concern she had for suffering Dulce these last few months … Yes pride I write because those quiet about love lessen not only their own importance but that which the world so desperately needs. There is some odd delineation – some universal dictate that fairly or not has G-d see those most cared for as a light – a gift – those who must be recognized as having special attention in life and there after. So it was and will be that Mary Frances gave such a recognition to dear Dulce.

I shared with Mary Frances a story about my Father and I during the last days of his life. This essay is about my friend and not me but for now I will explain as I did to Mary Frances that among other lovely and poignant conversations between my dear Father and I as he neared life’s end was when he looked at me and said: “To be loved as I have been loved by you my daughter, truly is to have seen the face of G-d!”  So too I believe it was that dear Dulce saw the glory and love of G-d as she looked into Mary Frances beautiful face.

So I end with what my Jewish faith teaches about eternal life. We are always here – a energy forever existing as the scientist concur matter never dissipates and dwells endlessly within the Universe. More immediate is that eternal life is given by remembrance – Dulce will never be forgotten – certainly not by Mary Frances nor we who were privileged to see these two together. Here I am going to ask my readers to do themselves a favor … Think of it as Dulce’s gift to you. Open your minds – see REAL love – witness in honest ways and without prejudice that which is love in whatever form it takes. When you view others and those they love – those they would do anything for then in honor of Dulce and to make your life better, understand that is the glory of G-d here present among us!

R.I.P.   Dulcinea “Dulce” Prevost … Thank you for your presence in all our lives. We who love your dear Mom Mary Frances will look after her for you – you can find comfort now among the angels!

My Personal 9/11 Story!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

“The Horror! The Horror!”,  proclaims Kurtz in Joseph Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness. Yes, we all thought or spoke those words as watching that day’s events on 11 September 2001. I watched the second tower fall as turning in my private hospital suite bed after breast cancer surgery. A dear relative surgeon had arranged a lovely private extra large room and to have my private nurse be sure cable news [as he knew I am a news junkie] was on for me when I woke that morning – never realizing or imagining my eyes would open to see that horror and hear Bryant Gumbel saying this was probably no accident after all.

After my first wonderful husband, David Colin, died in Spring 2001, I decided that doing a little – shall we say – sprucing up was in order. Being a life long runner, I felt my knees had become a bit chunky/muscular and that a breast lift might be nice as well. I had grown quite close to a distant relative [very talented] plastic surgeon and so I decided to ask what he thought – yes no problem but this dear man suggested that even though I already had routine yearly mammograms, another pre-op was required. So off I went – mammogram complete, organizing all in order to have a week or two recovery time where biggest task would be finally reading all those wonderful books on my night table. Being a wee bit compulsive and very organized I scurried to and fro paying bills, stocking up on necessities and taking a friend’s idea to arrange staying at the Philadelphia Ritz Carlton while recuperating in order to have REAL [yes I got a miscreant hint in even here, lol] concierge assistance 24/7. Now some shopping needed to be complete – a doctor gal pal explained that I would be needing loose fitting front buttoning tops for easy access after breast lift surgery. While driving in my new 2001 adorable amazing gorgeous custom champagne colored XKR Jaguar convertible – yes, in love with my car – my cell phone rang and seeing relative plastic surgeon number I assumed a quick pre-surgery get together lunch date was being offered. “Hello sweetie – are we getting together to break bread before you and I meet in operating room next week?”,  was my greeting. An unusually somber voice responded that yes but he wanted me to come to his office asap – I somehow knew instantly what was going on. I turned that sweet car around, headed across town, took the elevator up to the beautiful office I had entered so many times before to be greeted by a teary eyed doctor. No question now – something very bad was happening. Obviously, by now, you readers must realize they had found cancer – fortunately it was in duct situ carcinoma , which is a rather mild form/early detected breast cancer, of one breast and in my finally ready book Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! all that journey and more will be detailed. Suffice it to say that vanity saved my life and love of my surgeon friend made that journey much, much easier. Also, Ritz Carlton recuperation a very pleasant way to get back on one’s feet. Of course, the horrors of the 9/11 terrorism attacks not so easily remedied and that is why unlike many, when asked when my breast cancer surgery was – I answer precisely with day, date and even time – that day of national horror never erased from our collective world memory.

Well I fully recovered – knees, buttocks [yes had that lifted too] and breasts looking better than ever. The two years that followed however, just like our nation after 9/11, presented some serious and for me, unexpected challenges. I, as always, must remain vague here and simply ask for your patience as my book will detail fully the entire completed documented story – suffice it to say that there is much to be learned by everyone and I believe inspiration as well for those who read my story. I hope and pray that my complicated and triumphant journey will help others overcome and rally to their own great destiny. One of the main reasons my amazing second husband, Chester Michael Eliasz-Solomon agreed I should sign a book deal was how many folks we believe my story will give guidance to and that many will be made better for knowing that like myself, they too can thwart all enemies, fight against those who lie and hate and go on to find true happiness against the odds. My darling hubby has always graciously called me Teréza Triumphant ™ – in fact, among our now owned over thirty  trademarks/copyrights is that too. So here we are at my next 9/11 saga – meeting the love of my life.

Oh my, so sorry my darling readers and followers but vague again I must be about the exact circumstances of how and where I met my amazing second husband but trust me that as my self titled “team” [lawyers, advisers, publicist, family, friends, et al.] constantly say, it is definitely a REAL Oh My G-d love story – one surely to go down as great in the annals of timeless romances. What I will share in reference to the historical date this writing is about is that on 9/11 2003 my man proposed [in his Jaguar] with a magnificent diamond ring he designed and a poem he wrote that referenced the tragedy both nationally and personally for me that occurred on 11 September 2001  – his proposal speech included how he hoped that I would agree to make him happier than he ever thought possible by agreeing to marry him on this the same calendar date 2003. YES, YES, YES  I instantly responded seeing my new engagement ring through tears of  joy. WOW – what a guy – right? And so it is that each year on 9/11 we two thank G-d that our love has grown and that in remembering those who perished and all the heroes from the tragedy of 9/11, our coming together as man and wife and the children our blessed union created is a stick in the eye of those devils  that wanted to destroy this great nation – for we two and our children represent, as I believe my Jewish people do concerning the Holocaust, G-d’s design that good does REALLY triumph over evil!!!

P.S. My breast cancer experience was made much easier because of my insurance coverage, access personally to REALLY good doctors, funds for private nurses and yes being able to pay for staying at the Ritz Carlton to recuperate. In my blog post Why ACA Is Obama’s FDR Moment!, I discuss and even show my signed by President Obama framed certificate thanking me for my participation in passing that ground breaking health care bill. One of my plans is donate a part of my books proceeds to and continue to work for ALL women to have similar health care options – maybe I can not put you up at the Ritz but I surely, with other determined like minded individuals, get you mammograms and the best possible medical care that you can find. Both my husband and I are devoted feminist – committed to saving women from the draconian current crop of GOP cuts – PLEASE join us in November 2016 and vote out and against those who would deny any woman her rightful health care coverage!!!

Labor Day

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

LaborDay” …  Hungry people eating the stuff they raised, living in the houses they built, I’ll be there too …” says Henry Fonda near the end of the film Grapes of Wrath. On nearly every Labor Day growing up my late father and I read and discussed this iconic and historic book, as well as often watching the film together. I have written in other blog essays that I am the proud daughter of a successful business man who was also a union organizer – yes my dear readers, one can indeed be both.

The recent anti-union vitriol in this nation in nothing more than a political attempt to sway into action one group of Americans against another. The REAL and true economic fact is that organized labor has raised the standard of living for us all. History teaches well that companies responded to the pressing demands of unions even if not themselves involved. People seem to forget just how disposal workers were before employment laws began to be enforced. Injured at work meant goodbye to income and certainly no recourse to seek compensation for damages.

Yes I know that many of you truly believe that unions forced companies to close on account of costs and that your cost of living and purchases increased as well – this is pure nonsense I assure you. Simple truth is that REALLY healthy economies are a cycle of salary in, spending done and hence more jobs created. No matter labor, semi or professional status – if other folks do not have expendable and disposal incomes, then you will not have a position to receive yours either.

So do me a personal favor [you will thank me] my friends on this Labor Day – between the sale shopping, backyard barbecues, last beach visits – take some time to read Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath book and/or watch the old black and white film version. If you are lucky when I have you all over for a grand fête some day, you can hear me recite most of the very emotional ending soliloquy spoken by Henry Fonda, “  … wherever there is a hungry man, I will be there …”. Now go be a REAL American – support ALL our citizens in seeking security and good health and in doing so you will be reminded that we REALLY are our brothers and sisters keepers … so help me G-d!!!

P.S. In my first book, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! and more complete tell ALL memoir, Life Journey of Heiress Mommy, many of the amazing REAL details concerning my late father’s business philosophy – including how his legacy has influenced myself and my dear husband in making recent decisions – will be shared. Until then, get to task and help make our beloved nation a place where ALL can prosper!!!
