What Detroit SHOULD Learn From Philadelphia!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Detroit

I was shown a Twitter comment a few days ago suggesting that places like New York were “overrated” and so that Michigan born individual suggested that it was best to head back to Detroit. Why yes – that is if you are going to do as the late Tony Goldman did and now his daughter … that is to REALLY address and not faux champion the problems in that once iconic Michigan city. Recently (April 2013) at the inaugural meeting of Project for Public Spaces at Westin Book Cadillac, downtown Detroit investor, Dan Gilbert and now CEO, Jessica Gold Srebnick , seemed posed to offer that REAL dedication to the basic and core history – one might say flavor – of this Midwestern city. What was discussed in needing to be foremost in any redevelopment plans was the creative and herculean effort such an under taking requires. May I add that it seems quite obvious the fawning influx of middle class young suburbanites and surely temporary inner city Detroit residents is NOT the solution. Like my beloved hometown of Philadelphia, like New York City and Miami – you need REAL devotees of a place in order to save and then grow that community. Love I tell you is not only the answer for a personal life but REAL love is needed to save a city and to make it blossom.

Location,  location, location is the well known mantra used as instruction when one buys a home or starts a business and it is also the geographical dictate that often helps decide the destiny of a city, town or community. Some places like the historical city of Philadelphia lucked out by having itself center East Coast – near to the world’s REAL capital, New York City, close to this nation’s government center, Washington, D.C. and easy travel launch to the rest of the world. Both New York City and Philadelphia are blessed to be the center for a ring of REAL thriving neighborhoods – middle and working class boroughs and suburbs are logistically attached through public transportation and even decent highway, bridges, and tunnels. Add the plethora of universities, medical centers, major companies, art/entertainment venues and such – these two cities thrive where places like Detroit can never hope to in just the commerce and activity quotient alone. However, not only location make these East Coast cities more stable than its Michigan poor cousin – no, it is also the REAL strength of diversity from nationalities, ethnic groups, races, social economic levels that forge a stronger and more resilient platform for sustained growth. Not always peacefully coexisting to be sure but still interacting and hence interdependent are the varied demographics of places like NYC, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami. You know the reality is – in it together for better or worse – what forces these historically prominent places to go the distance and make things work no matter the obstacles.

Oh baby, hard work is certainly part and parcel of making a city be relevant and vibrant. Government and civic oversight a must in development and sustaining of our nation’s oldest cities. My own family and many friends were and still are at the forefront of Philadelphia prospering. The City of Brotherly Love was blessed from G-d to have [for two terms beginning in 1991] as its Mayor, Ed Rendell – he who demanded, cajoled and more the business types into doing the right thing to make the city a destination world class place. In my memoir, Heiress Mommy …  A Modern Super Woman Life! there will be so much to relate my very essence to  the city of my birth, Philadelphia. Almost DNA for me is how distinctly important that city was and is to my family history, successes and narrative.  Not nostalgia as many reminiscence about the “good old days” when Detroit prospered on the determinate factor involved in its being the automobile manufacturing center of the world but instead East Coast cities have morphed and expanded while keeping the respectful denotation of past glories and accomplishments. There is moral imperative in keeping a city center vital despite the suburbanization of its population – not at all different than acknowledging those relatives that went before each generation and by hard work made more success possible for their offspring. I am snobbery to a fault  in thinking but probably correct at the same time in the belief that only a REALLY astute and sophisticated population can overcome narrow minded preoccupation to allow the inclusiveness necessary to work, school and seek entertainment in a heterogeneous city center. Why even the Midwest city of Chicago has despite its center of country locale  managed to sustain a panache – a desirous draw to new and old residence alike. Why then not Detroit? Easy answer for me is that the groups that comprised a thriving motor city at one time just never REALLY worked together in effort to make it better – no, they just segregated to their bedroom communities and dismissed “those people” as the “other“. Come on readers,  you know its true … race relations and prejudice by the less than intellectual and far from progressive white middle class damned that city and still makes it nearly impossible to reconfiguration it into something modern and valuable. My wise husband was born and bred in Michigan – near Detroit and is stunned and very impressed with the difference here on the East Coast; he fell in love with inclusive intellectual awareness that Philadelphia offers its many citizens. In discussions and attempted analysis my husband’s first hand Detroit experiences have allowed him to surmise that the prejudicial and minimal scoped attitude of most suburban Detroit residences has lead to its demise. As I have in other blog posts,  I must mention my own personal awareness and battles with the lesser type bedroom community dwellers from that area: for these strip mall shoppers, it is that despite a few budget trips aboard and for a few a four year State college education or community college for others, they remain narrow minded and destructive. Their kind would never consider helping inner city Detroit minority youths and yet are willing to do an occasional Haiti “mission” in order to get their once in a lifetime photo opportunity. Is it in the water hubby and I often joke? Why here on the East Coast or places like Chicago do even those without benefit of  travel or higher education seem so much more erudite and willing to embrace REAL life possibilities than their similar types in the Detroit area? Is that a matter of location too or could it be the suburb’s ghetto attitude that you are born, live, work, school and die in that place being just fine that which has so limited the possibilities for REAL achievement in Detroit? All or some of these reasons need to be outed, dissected and addressed if ever in the words of Motown great Stevie Wonder there is “living, living just enough for the city” is to happen!

Going Punk to The Met Ball … Really?

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Punk-Chaos-to-CoutureFor years, one or another opportunity seemed to present itself that would perhaps have gotten me an invite to the iconic annual‍ Metropolitan Museum Ball ‍in New York City. No REAL invitation – only the stirrings of a possibility. Never doubting one year it would happen and as soon as I had a REAL publicist in my life, the “MUST get me to” list included this amazing event. Life busy – multiple pregnancies, moving, school, etc., plus, of course dealing with The Miscreants™ made only now the plan be within reach … thinking my year end 2013 memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! being published might just do the trick for 2014. My admiration and devotion to the efforts surrounding this fete are not purely pedestrian – not REALLY a singular wanting to be present for celebrity sake. Although, I readily admit that my REAL support team, myself and Hubby dear guffaw at the thought of how berserk members of THE REAL Evil Doers Club™ will be when seeing me there on that red carpet … wait, would these idiots even know what this event is? Well at least vandal Chicago pant seller poseur guy will – more on that in my book and subsequent interviews. Not at all without the ability to fawn over the well known, my REAL desire is to attend as a joyful guest, in support of the REAL value that such endeavors involve. Trust me that as a lifelong student of the nuances that otherwise seemingly frivolous happenings broaden to include in their scope, The Met Ball is about much, much more than glitter and bling.

This year on 6 May 2013 the theme will be Punk fashion … that’s right – Punk and its morphing into couture and the mainstream.  There will be an accompanying exhibit until August that examines this phenomenon. Accompanying the exhibit is a book, Punk: Chaos to Couture, by Andrew Bolton. All Met Galas have themes and each promotes an awareness of its subject matter – hopeful that the media attention creates interest and of course, commerce for the fashion industry. One might think of it as democratization of the arts. Without a doubt there are some who think such events frivolous and insignificant in relation to the more serious issues facing this world  – oh my, I say prospective attitude  is needed my darlings. There are jobs and jobs and jobs that REALLY depend on those factions highlighted at such social events – workers bees and creative types alike benefiting in multiple ways because The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute survives and thrives. Preservation of items and venues like those this and other museums house is of paramount necessity to our culture; the REAL beauty of a democratic society is that all people can view and enjoy creations once reserved for the few and mighty. Does anyone REALLY believe that instead of artifacts there would be more food and shelter provided for the needy? No is the equivocalness answer – there is no quid pro quo exchange in this scenario and as that is a REAL fact we all must glean as best possible the benefits [near and far] that are afforded the world through the grandeur of these times and places. Blessings to Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue who rightfully can claim for many years having been responsible for turning this Spring annual fete into a massive global attention getting happening. Her marketing and public relations genius is nearly unparalleled – I for one am a fan of this determined business woman. May I say that many paychecks are cashed on account of Ms. Wintour’s efforts – a thank you to her would be in order my friends.

Oh yes, one more brilliant addition to this event is that Beyonce Knowles [Mrs. Carter] was announced as the Honorary Chairperson of this year’s Costume Institute Gala. Marvelous choice I think – this talented performer, business woman, wife and mother is a fashionista without question. Indeed her celebrity status brings attention to such events from those who might not have otherwise tuned in but isn’t that just more inclusion to be championed – well I think it is. Now I go to contemplate how best to be sure that I REALLY am invited in 2014 – so much to do between now and then … perhaps a little visit to my brilliant plastic surgeon/dermatologist, more working out to be scheduled, deciding what couture designer to be visited and more – wow, I am exhausted already!

Time for a REAL Change of Climate!!!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Earth day 2013 blogWe have always had severe weather – just read the Bible.“,  “I remember one Winter 30 years ago when we rarely wore coats on the East Coast“, “How do explain all the snow this past year? ” … yes indeed each of these and more are the far too often heard responses when discussing global warming issues. Now these ideas are not always from the extremist climate change deniers – no, actually many are surprisingly from rather moderate and truth be told, confused individuals. REALLY troubling is that most are hearing lie filled and very unscientifically sound rhetoric from the naysayers – those hell bent for a variety of mostly nefarious reasons to deter action toward solving the planet’s environmental crisis. Add in the ridiculous anti-climate change partisan political diatribes and oh my, the end result is that nothing nearing a unified global effort to deal with Earth’s resource destruction is happening. Why the hell REAL science has gotten political is far beyond my ability to comprehend – not saying I don’t understand the base motivations of finances, power and such but I am at a loss to digest fully the whys of any one wanting to leave unattended environmental problems that affect each and every one of us. Climate change denial moves from much necessary skepticism regarding such matters to the usurping tonality that belies the almost frightening misrepresentation of REAL facts.

Money talks and there is loads of it behind the so called contrarian scientist – these are the professionals being funded by groups wanting to protect profits they feel will be lessened by government imposed regulations on items like pollution. We need to create energy industry jobs from the how to conserve and create new sources of energy programs; we also can provide many employment opportunities for those working on and constructing REAL methods of climate control. I am in no way an extremist do-gooder type – not in any way do I insist all industry seize to exist in order to protect the environment. Instead I REALLY believe profit and protection for all can occur through a  sensible business and societal plan. Regulation is not the demon plan – no, no, no – it is through a regulatory system that we achieve controls and reasonable government oversight to instruct industry on the methods best proven to protect consumers and the environment.

Much more frightening –  at times belly laughter inspiring – are the wing nuts who seem to think climate change concerns and especially the United Nations initiatives on the subject are anti-Christ. These “end of days” zealots profess and I think REALLY believe that controlling the destruction of our Earth will deny their quested “second coming of Christ”. Well now, my Jewish faith teaches the polar opposite – we are dictated to be REAL stewards of the environment, as G-d created and gifted it to us and wants its safe keeping. No matter your chosen faith or lack there of – I am not willing to destroy this planet so another person’s religious desires might be achieved and besides the lineage from Earth destroyed to heavenly nirvana makes zero sense [just saying]. REAL science must rule the day on the subject of climate change and global warming … neither left/Liberal nor Right/Conservative should ever be allowed to impose their self motivated ideals on this REALLY imperative matter. The health and welfare of every living thing – human, animal and plant – depends on a concerted and intelligent effort to correct and control the destruction of our environment.

On a REALLY personal note – my late Father, Abraham H. Solomon,  was an early environmental activist; so much so that I included reference to his nearly life long efforts in dealing with this issue in my eulogy for him. I myself was at the first Earth Day celebration in 1970 – in Philadelphia. The children in my family always being the benefactors of my annual April tutorial and books/items to help make Earth Day fun. In my year end (2013) book, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will share much of how my life was altered by such matters of REAL science. For now, lets PLEASE work together – wise up and do our best to make Earth safe for all living things – learn about and enjoy this great gift from G-d on this Earth Day, 22 April 2013 !!!

Israel @65

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Israel_65A celebration of the birthing a nation – modern day Israel is celebrating 65 miraculous, amazing and gloried years. 2013 or 5773 (Hebrew) denotes a prospering and ever more world important Middle East country … no longer simply the homeland of my Jewish people, Israel is a tech center, arts venue, education mecca and vacation destination for all people. All who visit come away astonished at the level of sophistication that Israel presents – magnificent is the only apt description of this tiny and strong willed country. No one should think it naive when I state Israel strong now and forever … it is determined by G-d and assured by men and women who will not let Israel go asunder – we, the Jewish people of this world and those who support us will NEVER let Israel vanish from this world. You must visit – you too – no matter faith or national origin, will come way awe struck and in love with my proud ancestral homeland.

Without the obvious considerations – the facts of Israel being the homeland for my religion and ancestral heritage of Judaism – one must marvel at the social and economic growth of this REAL democracy during its short 65 year existence. Israel is not singularly a place for nor of one particular culture – yes, it is our Jewish homeland but many faiths, ethnicity and national origin people live and prosper there. Israel is a true international place … the business and financial aspects are multi national and welcoming. Scientific research, technological development  and academic scholarship nearly unprecedented. Education always foremost in Jewish life, is a mainstay of everyday life in Israel … no matter the surrounding stresses, the population adheres to high education standards and this, along with research and development in areas of science has produced unequaled major medical and world changing/life saving break through treatments. Stunning is the only superlative that correctly denotes the absolute abundance of progress in this small and most days besieged nation – where else and when else in history has such evidence of G-d’s REAL blessings been demonstrated. A miracle?  – perhaps but also a fierce and directed sense of righteous  placement and intrinsic knowing that this is as it should be allows for such accomplishments.

I love the idea of eclecticism – many of my blog posts have referenced my own family and individual life as being just that. Not surprising to me that Israel is that too – a multiple faceted and many disciplined nation. Art, fashion, science, technology, ecology, education, medicine,  religion,  travel,  music,  agriculture,  food,  entertainment,  textiles, architecture,  politics,  charity,  international involvement,   etc.,  etc.,  etc.  –  exhausting and dizzying but REAL and true as a description of all Israel does and offers. I am aware of sounding prideful – why not I ask – for is not this a place to boast of? The issue more important to discuss is why all REALLY good people do not see this as a blessed template from which all nations can learn – glean lessons? Israel should be studied and mimicked – for if we/they can survive and rally to such accomplished heights despite surrounded by sworn enemies, then why not others? Herein lies one of my constant refrains – if you read me regularly or know me personally, then you are aware of my personal gloried story of rallying and overcoming much – my thwarting of naysayers and defeating of nemesis only to REALLY have it all. Yet I, as Israel, remain vigilant and humble – always acknowledging those that assisted and made possible achievements from which I benefit greatly. Israel owes great debt to the United States but it is a mutually benefactor relationship and no one need think that anything less than synopsis between the two rules the day.

In my memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will share some of my 14 trips to Israel details – my plans to have a property there some day and why I was born on account of Israel being too. For now I say, HAPPY & BLESSED Birthday Israel … I REALLY LOVE YOU!!!

The Congo is Being Raped!!!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

rape-in-the-congoIn a pit – a hole in the ground … you are a fifteen year old Congolese girl who has been kidnapped from her village and now is being repeatedly raped, day after day after day. Now pregnant, the rapist soldiers release you and your family seeing the “bump” evidence of your pregnancy reject you as they blame you for bringing this situation of shame to them. True story and tragically not unique at all in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The REAL question is – why the hell we,  the Western world,  are not doing more to stop these atrocities? True there are international and United States, as well as European Union efforts to address this horrific situation but not enough – not nearly anything close to  a really concerted effort has begun to stop these heinous crimes against women, girls, men, boys and even babies. That is right – you read correctly – I tell you babies are being raped by Congo rebels and regulation soldiers too. The Congo has become the rape capital of the world, with most reported and obviously some not, acts of sexual violence on this planet. Now – do I have you full attention? Allow me to have you gaped mouth and cringing because if that is what it takes to make us all REALLY care – then here I go folks. I am NOT going to do the politically correct warning so that your delicate sensibilities might be spared from what I am going to share here – read it and know this effects every human being. Yes  – I tell you the REAL truth in saying there are massive predatory atrocities going on in the act of raping Congo citizens now – today – as you read this blog post. What are you going to do about it my dear readers?

Between all the many newspapers and periodicals I read, activists and human rights organizations I belong to and support – my knowledge of the Congo and similar atrocities has been long standing. Add to this the fact that BBC radio and NPR are in my homes and cars as my constant companions – well there you have the barrage of horrors I have been willingly exposing myself to concerning matters such as rape in the Congo. Hearing reports of infant and toddler girls being ganged rape and left for dead by boy soldiers and grown militia men is at times mind numbing. One asks over and over again – how and why? Trust me – there at times I just must put such REALLY daunting matters out of my mind and hence I do not expect you to do any differently. We all have REAL lives to lead – many pressing personal and professional tasks to attend to and often our own emergencies. However, no decent person can turn the proverbial “blind eye” to something as inhumane as mass and deliberate raping of an entire population. If you do turn away, not only will humanity suffer but that damn “slippery slope” of them today and G-d knows who tomorrow comes into play. A world where raping is the norm because you think “well – that happens there because they are  _____ ” is exactly how we all get diminished and I do not only mean in spirit. The Congo scenario is evil and equally destructive in many areas of international concern. To let an entire territory be ruled and controlled by rapist thugs depletes humanity and natural resources and financial support, growth and development is just global insanity. Yes readers – this is a tale of human destruction but also a national and international economic development – for a nation can not prosper where rape is massive and common place. Shocked are you that I am bringing financial topics into a post about rape? You betcha I am because that and sometimes only that gets action going from the powers that are in charge.

By the way, if your however  subtle and still unacknowledged racism is informing you even in the most remote parts of your mind that this is happening because it is Africa – stop because I will remind you of the mass rapes and murders in the Bosnian War by Serbians against Albanian Muslim women and girls. All right now that we have settled that issue – what say we all about the possible and yes unintended complicity that the United States and other donor nations have by continuing to give money to the Congo despite being quite aware of the rape and violence there? U.N. Envoy Rice faced these exact questions from human rights organizations and diplomats concerned that the Obama administration was not doing enough to  deal effectively with the many layers of corruption and violence – including mass rapes – in the Congolese nation. Please understand that I am REALLY not naive nor a knee jerk Liberal, “feel good” humanitarian. No indeed, but instead a somewhat sophisticated and REALLY astute observer that fully realizes not all international interplay is simply a matter of bad guys versus G-d and the angels. Surely we can not just pull back all aid in hopes that will end the atrocity in the Congo but what we can and must do is put the screws to these bastards. You know what I mean – not just tough talk but REAL action against the perpetration factions. Dear G-d … we bombed entire swaths of Iraq in response to our tragic 9/11 attack. Are you telling me we can not use our mighty military U.S.A. and allies force to stop baby rapist? Come on folks – lets get REAL as they say. We can and we should act decisively in the Congo or anywhere else where horrific violence is happening. If we do not – the proverbial “bite on our ass” will happen  because voids will be filled and not be friends of ours. We leave open the REAL possibility that extremist will seize the moment – get in there and save the day, only to then co-op that besieged population into become sycophantic tools that are then also enemies of ours. Why not – after all, who would you appreciate if saved from such horrors? Those that gave marginal assistance and lip service or those that used brute force to destroy your rapist? We were slow to get involved in an effort to stay the tide of  Rwanda genocide  until 1994 and then the United States and others were reticent to intervene and stop the horrors in Bosnia-Herzegovina until 1995.  I can tell you that both made me passionately irate as the human detritus accumulated during those major world crisis. Admittedly being a Jew who has maternal Albanian Muslim family made me even more acutely aware of that situation but in no way was my purely logical application standards tweaked by that part – no, instead I explained to all who would listen, that the world did not want those peoples to be left with absolutely zero choice but to allow our sworn enemies to be their salvation and new found friends as we left the door for such results wide open.  Fortunate for us and I am proud to say, Albanian Muslims defied that outcome and remained secular and not embittered – that burdened community found appreciation and hope in the eventual U.S. and ally involvement – deciding they were more nationalistically connected to the non Muslims in their country, then outside extremist Islamist. Anyone want to roll the dice on the Congo being similar in results? Not me!

Note: In my soon memoir,  Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life!  all the amazing details on how I came to feel like a REAL citizen of this world came to be  – from my multi-faith and uniquely blended ethnic background to the “womb to tomb” activism that this life has presented to me!

Austerity Bursts Our Bubbles!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Liquidity BubbleMortgages, School Loans, Auto Financing, Retirement Investment plans and so on and so on – are all a matter of “spending money to make money” type scenario. We each – in one or another form – do just that. I wrote a blog during the 2012 Presidential campaign, “Why Little Billy and Susie REALLY Want You to Vote for Obama 2012!” [1 November 2012] which expresses in a rather satirical tonality this same idea – it was and still is a REAL and true fact that families and nations need to extend themselves financial in order to grow and even more importantly, so that they do not contract – no make that not collapse.

All economies are REALLY nothing more than a “swap and trade” program … you know what I mean: I “swap” you this money [pay for something] and then you “trade” with me [sell me that thing or service]. I see all economies – personal, national and international as nothing more than a barter system – yes indeed,  we are negotiating trades at many levels but now so called “Austerity Plans” are disallowing entire constituency purview at that table. What is one to do when they have nothing to offer as an exchange tool – easy answer is nothing at all. Hence the cycle seizes to exist and the economic platform collapses. I am not suggesting nor does current and not even historical evidence support unbridled or unchecked expenditure as the path to economic growth – no, instead a measured and deliberately planned out budget that includes seeding the economy is the REAL answer. America did just that under FDR to reverse The GREAT Depression in 1930’s … there were government work programs that not only gave salaries to previously desperately unemployed people but also infrastructure developments funded by the government that until today benefit us all financially. Think of roads, buildings, public works that still give access to businesses and more – all here today because the FDR plan spent money then.

Just this past week our U.S. Treasury Secretary, Jacob Lew met with the European Union to suggest their austerity program be more “growth friendly“. See – told you – friendly means not contracting drastically by pulling funds from that particular nation’s working economy. One ask then, “Where do you get that money to spend in the first place?” Obviously nation’s borrow from others more wealthy – no one REALLY calls in those bank debts as it is obvious the symbiotic relationship makes those bank notes not easily foreclosed on. Yes it is a “wink and note” interplay – nothing REALLY wrong with that as long as no one cheats, steals or obfuscates the truth of the matter. In other words, when the country who is the borrower takes the “loan” from those in lending position, transparency must rule the day. Problems like the Bubble in Ireland or here this past decade in the United States was with those amongst us not adhering to honest practices and procedures. Simply put – it must be the old case of “dollar in, dollar out” to REALLY work. There is plenty of money on this planet – corporations are well entitled to profits, as are their shareholders, however the almost “hoarding” current status that companies are demonstrating is not acceptable – baby we need to circulate the currency or everyone will eventually lose out.

I like to think of myself as Liberal capitalist … yes a bit conflicted in current rhetorical definition. As my parents before me, I REALLY believe in wealth and growth – the entrepreneurial spirit a part of my DNA to be sure. But also like my parents before me, I also REALLY believe in fair tax paying – all contributing a fair share and not earning or gaining wealth by denying others theirs. A “living wage” and not a minimum wage is needed so that working people can not only survive but thrive and thus spend in venues that then earn and pay taxes. An easy – almost childlike – “round robin” plan.  It is important for me to state here that I am not a fan of the self titled  “Occupy Wall Street” movement/ideas and conversely, I believe that if a bank or any one else is REALLY “too big to fail“, then that entity might just be “too big to exist“. Still I favored the Auto Bail-Out, as well as the bank bail out [TARP] that this last decade presented – I REALLY feel that both President Bush and President Obama did the right thing, for otherwise [well documented] we would have slipped – no make that fell hard into another BIG Depression – possibly full throttle economic collapse.

Look folks – this is hugely complicated and panic, blame game and certainly not finger pointing will serve any of us well. Studied and cautious processes must be instituted and monitored – largess between countries must be the tone. We are on a proverbial “slippery slope” as nation’s contract into jingoism and nationalistic fervor – often used by the politicians to scare their populace into support of plans not necessarily viable. In the mean while, what is needed are REAL employment opportunities and well managed social safety net programs expanded that will stay the tide of misery among the world’s population. Think of it this way – if I pay you decently today, you will buy my stuff tomorrow and then I purchase that which others produce and so on and so on and so on … see – spending it to make it is the REALLY correct theme needed here and now!!!

P.S. In my year end (2013) memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will detail all the wonderfully REAL facts of how my business owner Father unionized his own company – the magnificence of that and the gloried result, that I and my children have as a proud legacy. Hint: it worked out quite well for all involved !!!

“Paper Tigers” of North Korea!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

PaperTigerWhat North Korea called the “Lips and Teeth” relationship it had with Mama China is over  … no more REAL synoptic support mechanism exists between the two.  North Korea is definitely flapping its lips these days but China will not bite their perceived nemesis – not U.S.A. nor others.  None-the-less, the “securocrats” amongst us are anxious to ramp up rhetoric and increase fears that North Korea is the next big threat to world security – yes they have nuclear weapons and of course, this enemy nation is without the need to behave as a world worthy partner but can anyone seriously believe North Korea can successfully wage war on the United States or our allies? I am NOT a pacifist – not in any sense of the word – what I am is a sensible reactionary and as such think all efforts to stop nations like North Korea from dangerous activity must happen but the bellicose rhetoric by the United States is just so much hot air. Do or don’t do is my life motto – as a proud American Zionist, I tell you the enemy must never go unchallenged but neither should they be taunted with no REAL determination to carry through at the base level. Far too often individuals and nations react with hyperbole and yet still do not go into action against threats. REAL bullies, and trust me I know REAL bullies, need to be reproached constantly and thwarted efficiently or they just keep coming back for more.

We have been down this road before folks – Cuba still off limits on account of a misconceived notion that we will starve them out of Communism. Nope – has not worked for now over fifty years and yet we leave a perfectly good off the shore of Florida trading partner languishing just to satisfy rhetorical arguments long irrelevant.  Certainly North Korea is a more dangerous character than Cuba but not dissimilar in that the U.S.A. can cultivate quite easily through strength and active, persistent investment and persuasive carrot stick activity both these isolated spots. Now that China is actually more capitalist than not, it is only a matter of time that we and them can join together in a virtual, if not actual, overtaking of North Korea. Why then the hyperbole and huge cost efforts to detain this impoverished war mongering small country? Money, money, money REALLY does make the world go around – people everywhere need to eat, be sheltered and more. Modernity has technology flooding the entire planet with information via internet, smart phones and the like – making it much easier to infiltrate the minds and hearts of previously brainwashed nation states. The United States and our allies need only educate the citizens of those places most determined to destroy us and themselves for the effort. Yes I know – what about terrorist types? Simple answer is – kill them but that does not mean getting us killed in the process. Why go to war and kill innocents, when intelligence can determine the who and where of those leading their masses into war against us? Not simply done but surely doable – President Obama proved that with the demise of Bin Laden, Gaddafi and others of that elk.

North Korea MUST be dealt with swiftly – no question but not with false posturing nor spineless bravado. If you follow me or know me personally, then you are aware of my husband and my determination against our own personal nemesis, The Miscreants™. How does this relate to North Korea you are asking? Well it does my friends in that my husband could have and 100 years ago would have punched these evil creatures in the nose but instead we left no remark unanswered, no crime or threat unreported, no slander/defamation stated without filing a lawsuit – in other words, we acted decisively, continuously and smartly to defeat and keep defeated these REAL enemies. No our work is not done – we have employed and have been personally embraced by REAL professionals to aid in our defense. Much expense and energy goes into our plan but REALLY well worth it as triumphant our life is and becomes more so each day. The comparison to a nation with nuclear arms like North Korea might be stretching it here but you must believe me that our personal enemies are just as lethal and my husband, I and our “team” just as justified in our ongoing effort to stop the horror once and for all. Our 100% legal efforts – through attorneys and law enforcement – has already reaped benefits as THE REAL Evil’s Doers Club™ have apparently retreated from social media to hide and be marginalized back into their minimalist life. The work for us is not done and the financial damages we hope to gain from upcoming lawsuits will hopefully – through press coverage – stop others from lie spewing and harmful actions against REALLY good people like ourselves. So you see my analogy is a good one … U.S.A. must be forceful against North Korea, as my husband and I have been against our sworn enemies – never turn away and never let a threat go unpressed

Look – North Korea recently entertained former basketball star Dennis Rodham and the CEO of Google. Obvious to me that this “paper tiger” REALLY wants to be the world’s new kitten. As for the nemesis I fight this day – why yes they too are as useless and weak as a “paper tiger” but my end 2013 memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! will REALLY detail just how REALLY dangerous such seemingly insignificant persons can become – and just how to beat them at their own sick games. Let us – the great U.S.A. – fight all nemesis as my husband and I do our personal foes; that is with the constant self assurance that G-d and the angels are REALLY on our side … now that is a REALLY powerful thought !!!

Its All About the Constitution [Stupid]!!!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

lady_justiceWe all remember – at least those of us old enough and interested in such matters – when our dear President Clinton told this nation in 1992 that it is all about the economy [stupid] and I agree – I often say if one can not feed their family, pay the rent and such, than political nuances are not going to be of any concern to them. Equally important to this great nation and even relevant to most things economic is our United States Constitution. Not just for those of us studying law or addicted to things like the latest Supreme Court decision [look I willingly admit to reading  in entirety the SCOTUS  legal decisions for fun – I know  – you are thinking how boring!!!]. Do not fool yourself my friends – this nation is only viable as long as it adheres to laws and not the dictates of each citizen’s personal passions or prejudices. Yes, as a Jew, I am fully aware of other nations that morphed their jurisprudence into an evil bastardized form to prosecute “legally” my people … the Nuremberg Race Laws are a horrific example of exactly how a legal system was perverted to do great harm. Vigilance must be constant – legal formats tweaked and changed but this does not equal allowing individual prerogatives to rule the courts of our great land. No, no, no – never should we be victims of a few self interest ideals in decisions of legal matters or rights of our citizens. The conversation today needs – make that requires – a committed and well informed involvement by each of us to assure all of us remain REALLY protected under the law. Here again, is why laws are an economic issue – one needs to be concerned that the old joke “the best justice money can buy” is not a U.S.A. reality. Lady Justice may be blindfolded but she has never been without insight. REAL justice must not be a mere academic treatise but a living and well tended to discipline. Let us examine the current present day concerns that face our legislatures and judges – you must not turn away for all of us are affected by the ruling laws in this country. I believe the extremist from all political sides are a REAL threat to modern judiciary – the imperative exist for attentive participation in relationship to all things legal. Do not fret, I will lead you down the path toward your rightful voice on such matters or at least peek your interest [I hope and pray].

Just this week Justices Sotomayer and Breyer rebuked a lawyer for racially charged “pernicious” language in a case concerning a Texas man’s drug possession conviction – this stands out specifically in relationship to my topic in that the Court declined to hear the case and yet found it necessary and warranted to admonish the prosecutor for allowing prejudicial evidence as a determinant factor. Paramount to our fair and balanced judiciary is to establish that while one may be guilty of a crime, they are not to be found guilty on account of unconstitutional factors. Justice Sotomayer was adamant that “substituting racial stereotypes for [REAL] evidence” was not to be tolerated in our Courts. Any stereotypes or the predetermined judgments about an accused individual actually nullifies the REAL power of our laws … one is always left wondering if someone is REALLY guilty or in fact, found to be on circumstantial evidence when bias exist. Him or her today could very well mean you or me tomorrow if only our fellow citizens or lawmakers preconceived notions of one or another group among us is to facilitate prosecutorial  efforts. Here we are at that proverbial “slippery slope” scenario – a steep and often quick slide down to the horror chamber of unequal and REALLY unfair court room dictates. What is called enforcement discretion – that which allows law enforcement and prosecutors to selectively decide on what is or not to be proceeded against is in need of constant oversight. We all have prejudices, we all have preconceived ideas and notions about others but what we all do not have is the ability to enforce and proceed legally against other citizens – hence the absolutely necessitous attitude toward those with such life altering responsibilities. Most do their work with “due diligence” but when a few become a threat to the very structure of our constitutionally established laws, all effort must be taken to seize the reigns in order to pull back the attempts that might very well destroy our nation’s legal system.

My heart and mind were gladdened by the amicus brief of 75 prominent GOP members – including President George W. Bush – filed this week to the Supreme Court in support of the constitutionality to allow gay Americans to have the equal right to marry under our civil laws. I and those like minded will defend all religions to do as their conscious see fit in this realm – no one will be forced to marry anyone in their faith but all must be allowed civil matrimonial equality. As the highest court in this land will review that legal matter during this year’s session, the Republicans who signed that legal brief are stating that despite rather conservative ideas about matters important to our country, they feel that the constitution is not the place to decide the right or wrong of that which all citizens are legally entitled. What is confusing to some is why moral issues like civil rights are the purview of courts and legislation but not who can or cannot be allowed to marry. It is really quite simple – the former is a REAL delineation from our Founders desire to have all  equal under the law and the latter exactly the opposite.

I see our United States Constitution as a sort of secular bible – our jointly held and guiding life in America legal manual. I am the benefactor of my wise Father who paraphrased often Blackstone’s formulation stating that “better ten guilty men go free, then one innocent fellow be punished or imprisoned“. This mandate broadens to civil areas as well criminal under our United States legal system and we must be attentive guardians in perpetuity or lose our way.  To allow personal prejudices to get in between our national community and those laws that govern us all would be not only destructive but a reactionary nightmare. Neither liberalism nor conservative constructs should be our ultimate defining national template – we absolutely must adhere to the REAL ideals of our Founders – that is to hold fast to the promise of REAL and complete equality. No matter your status, your background or your self perceived place in the American mosaic – you and I are the REAL gatekeepers of that most magnificent of human documents, The United States Of America Constitution!!!

Happy me = 2013!!!
P.S. Someone asked me what I would do if after finishing law school, etc. I somehow managed to be nominated & confirmed to sit on the Supreme Court … well I first suggested I could never get past the confirmation hearings, as I would never tolerate being so disrespected. However, should I make it to SCOTUS – my first task I explained would be to go to a REALLY good tailor. My attorney friend obviously was confused – why a tailor he wanted to know. I explained to have my robe shorten, tightened & neck lowered … still confusing my legal buddy, I further explained because I want to be known as the “babe justice“. Why I was asked, as I am such a confirmed feminist & wouldn’t that be antithetical to such a life philosophy. Not at all I insisted because you use what you have – all of it I told my pal – to get REAL justice for ALL. Well there will REALLY be more about that and other REAL life facts in my memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life!

Every February I Fall in Love with the GOP … Grand OSCAR Product!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Oscar-2013Money makes the world go around”  the song in Cabaret begins … yes indeed it is, happily, Oscar money generating time again. We should all be REALLY grateful that the U.S.A. entertainment industry provides a yearly venue that creates jobs, distributes contracts, does massive hires and creates wealth for so many varied vendors, artists, workers, etc.. You have those employed directly in the film industry – the actors, producers, directors, agents, scenery and makeup/costume designers, audio experts and more. The accessory and support areas of food, travel, car service, fashion, hair stylist +++ are REALLY too numerous to list. All are benefactors of Oscar time economy  but more relevant is the year round economic benefits to so many that our America film business creates. Along with this grandeur once yearly film business economic stimulus is the day to day movie tickets, refreshment concessions, DVD sales and attached product promotion licensees that all pay salaries to small business owners and average workers. Even the fashion and jewelry industries benefit from red carpet events … copies galore are instantly produced after each star studded couture viewing – sold to the waiting minions for much more reasonably priced aspired to attires. Reason enough to support this industry but there is more and you my dear readers/followers just know that I am itching and ready to explain it all to you here.

Shall we start with one of my favorite subjects – the law; in this instance Intellectual Property Laws. My brilliant husband, Chester Michael Eliasz-Solomon and I (jointly) own 30 trademarks and are forever watchful, as are our advisers of infringements on these products of our creation. The entertainment industry is and should REALLY be vigilant over their produced works – whether tangible like actual movies or an idea – all should be the sole property of those who had  developed, imagined and produced that thing. When you copy – engage in piracy [warez] – you are stealing from many people. Theft is theft … no delineation from you breaking into a home to rob from another person. All of you who know or follow me realize by now that I tolerate no such action – you try to take my ideas, my repudiation  or my right to be productive – I will sue your miscreant evil doer ass immediately. Why should Hollywood, et al. be any less determined to protect their property? Remember not only the REALLY few high paid stars are effected by such thievery – there are multitudes of workers whose livelihoods are lessened and even permanently destroyed from piracy theft. Trust me – you should REALLY care about this issue for yourself, loved ones and communities because all lose revenue from such egregious actions. Listen folks – I fully admit to being a purist on this topic; my late Father, who was a successful entrepreneur capitalist pro-union/labor activist [yes – all that and more] would admonish us/his  children and grandchildren for looking through a magazine or book too extensively before purchasing. Abe Solomon’s  well thought out theory was by doing that – deciding not to buy only after consuming the contents – we were taking away jobs – that is correct, using without paying destroys the economy – period. So you see I was born and bred to be REALLY involved in the legal world of economic rights and protection – it affects each of us no matter your locale, career or financial status. It is not just Hollywood that suffers from piracy theft.

Now – the REALLY glam  fun stuff plus a wee bit of sociology. I adore the arts, the creators, the skills, the fashion and the glitz. So very American are all the Oscar details. Where else can a just a year ago unknown actor be championed as the greatest star on earth? Up by the proverbial boot straps has always been the true grit of movie land – indeed we of modernity just love to build folks up, just to tear them down and yet, still inspiring each of us to see an upstart youngster or seasoned working actor make it big. Hollywood and Vine – the corner of stardom and obscurity present all possibilities as equals. Films inspire, comfort, teach, entertain and much more – salvation is found, direction shown and often much needed momentary escape given by going to the movies. Wow – who could ask for anything more? Us mere mortals copy speech, lifestyles, dress, seduction methods from what we see and hear at the movies – television as well but more so the big screen in that it REALLY is a bigger than life venue and as such morphs we watchers into its temporarily staged world ideal. Many REALLY important historical social issues have been addressed and affected by the movies … wars detailed, patriotism defined, civil rights situations made clear. Can we not therefore think of film as the world’s tutor – our modern day Socratic teacher is how I see the shared communal movie watching experience and resulting national and even international conversational debates. Communication made accessible is what the film industry gives the world – we can know one another more easily because a story is told and unfolded before our eyes when we go to the movies.

So here I am at a hotel blogging event – at an “undisclosed location” [not joking about that] – writing this blog post, enjoying events and looking forward to having a REALLY lively Twitter @HeiressMommy [Teréza Eliasz-Solomon] peripatetic chat with all of you as the Academy Award Oscars are presented live tonight!!!

P.S. Hubby and I and our “team” are thrilled that discussions are beginning for my memoir Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! to be made into a motion picture … now what to wear on the Red Carpet – thinking my much admired Marchesa  [hello Mrs. Harvey Weinstein] would be a REALLY great choice for me and of course, jewels by the iconic Harry Winston. Stay tuned – my life is always REALLY getting more and more interesting. Enjoy the evening!

Your Money Sequestered, While Congress Siesta!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

jailed dollar sign blogHeld hostage – Yes indeed that is exactly and realistically what the term sequestration means as applied to our national United States budget in reference to the current D.C. scenario. The legal implication – original intent and meaning of sequestering relates to holding properties until litigation decisions are made … sort of like my husband and I are hoping courts will do with homes, etc. owned by The Miscreants™ as our rightfully due damages/restitution from the lawsuits we are pursuing against them. Unfortunately, the jurisprudence definition of what it means to hold onto property and how it now is used with our government pocketbook are not a reasonable analogical situation. In 1985 the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Deficit Reduction Act led to the adaption by Congress the idea of sequestration in an effort to reign in Washington’s spending habits. In theory this was to force all Congress persons to make their budget/spending votes and decisions a matter of conscious calculations, rather than a mere mathematical automatic agreement to increase spending. Well it is NOT working – it seems that present day circumstances are not REALLY so easily morphed into the simplistic tonality of what might have been an honest plan to reign in out of control Federal spending in 1985. Additionally, as with so many of this great country’s REAL problems – partisan politics and extremist attitudes have gotten in the way of REALLY substantial national financial planning.

Congress just left D.C. for a week – you my dear fellow Americans are facing a plethora of REALLY important and life altering changes if our friends on Capital Hill do not pass a budget stat. Defense, food safety, health, disaster response, national security, etc., etc., etc. will all be affected and all in a REALLY negative way. Consensus is that economic growth will be stymied by not passing the budget before the looming deadline. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office data supports passing a budget now. Not liberal nor conservative but all with REAL common sense approaches to our nation’s budget agree that this situation could be catastrophic  – in fact, that calamity outcome is specifically why Congress has avoided such an “off the cliff ” finality all these years. In the mix these days are the mostly ignorant almost hell bent on our collective destruction Tea Party types who got elected (somehow) to Congress – these extremist seem ready to prove their [uneducated] point that the U.S. debt is the most important matter at hand and it appears that no consequentially perpetrated result can persuade these blow hard politicians that not raising the budget will be disastrous. In previous blog post I detailed with REAL facts how the near obsessive compulsion some on the right have with what President Obama called “meat clever budget cuts” is a problem. I say- no, no, no – a country’s very complex budget is not, not, not like a family budget. That simplistic analysis by some in current day political life is archaic and has been proven by bi-partisan studies to be a fallacy.

Personally, despite being a liberal Democrat, I am not against so called “special interest” – after all, those interest are part and parcel of this nation’s structure. However, no one individual aspect of this representative republic should define nor derail the whole of our national finance structure … our economy is a interconnected and nuisance machine – no one part directs in totality the entire functional apparatus. Holding our tax dollars hostage – jailed and surrendered until those in power [Republicans in this particular case] get their way is near treasonous.  Our international friend and foe alike are watchful as to how the U.S.A. handles itself in all venues – we effect the world community and other countries feel not only beholding but rightfully involved in what and how we make decisions. It is grown up time for Washington D.C. – get REAL lawmakers and do your job now – pass the budget increase without further delay. We are watching you and believe me, know one will be grateful if the budget gets “balanced” but their police do not respond, their children get ill from consuming tainted food products, their life is endangered by driving on bad roads and by getting on less than well inspected aircraft, et al.. Let me be blunt about momentary vitriol balance budget rhetoric – it is like unprotected sex in that it might feel good at the moment but the morning after regrets and worries are a REAL bitch!!!

P.S. In my tell ALL  memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! my REAL commitment to all things political will be explained – possibly to ad nausea. Anyway, stay tuned my dear readers – obviously I always have more to say!!!

Note: Go to Congress.org to learn how to inform Congress – no matter your party affiliation that you want a budget passed before the March 1st deadline – PLEASE!
