Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid — Viruses Abound!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

coronavriusYou know those apocalyptic Summer movies where the heroes save us all from a deadly virus … something spreading across the globe that was some how or another ignored by governments and thus allowed to proliferate ? Well – it is not nor has it ever been only the conjured story line work product out of Hollywood. Now the head of the World Health Organization has warned that a serious new threat to the entire planet is to be taken seriously; this past week WHO Chief General Margaret Chan spoke about the latest global threat in terms of catastrophic warnings. The issue at hand is a coronavirus which originated in Saudi Arabia and has spread to Europe where a French citizen having visited Dubai recently is now dead. Apparently the contagion factor is high in that close contact seems to have already spread this disease factor. Are you nervous yet? Well you should be and not least reason on account of our own U.S. government not paying close enough attention to this potentially REAL  and urgent devastation qualified situation.

Do not get that “it won’t happen here” attitude as a means to be comforted my dear readers – nope, will not work because this so called MERS virus [Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome] does not need a passport apparently; it has already killed 22 people and infected others in 40 countries. Yes indeed viruses travel on hosts and we humans are a increasingly wondering bunch – we go places and bring not only souvenirs back home but diseases as well. Simple answer you might be saying to yourself – I and my family just will not travel anywhere from now on. Not going to work folks because others will venture far and wide and you have no REAL way to vet your contacts – it is an impossibility to keep safe your person by some faux attempt at isolation. So now I come to the REAL crux of this issue – the “them versus us” dialectical philosophy that so permeates much of the increasingly nationalistic world community. Some bogus and nearly insane idea that a nation will close its borders to disease carrying “others” seems at play and that is as frightening as the killer disease itself. Sweethearts it did not work out well with AIDS when so many thought it was a”gay disease” that one could stay safe from if not a homosexual – nope, that bad boy spread across all demographics and so too will these ever present and newly discovered viruses.

There is no equivocation that money is in short supply in all the world economies – governments looking for austerity programs everywhere to balance their budgets. There is however wealth on this planet and it needs to be logically used to not only feed and shelter everyone but educate the masses – provide for the general welfare of each person – and REALLY protect from health issues that can and will if left unchecked be the path to a unprecedented world destructive pandemic that will surely empty the coffers. Do it now or suffer the consequences later – that is a REAL and without hyperbole warning for us all. Each of us must demand our governments step up to this less than glamorous public problem – no rah rah moments for politicians to use for reelection rallies here.  No placards used to promote the appropriate funding for disease research and prevention will make it to the internet but it still needs doing and now is the time. We are G-d’s servants – the keepers of one another and even if unlike me, you are not a person of faith, I know you agree that saving all that dwells here on Earth is of paramount importance. I plead with you to turn off that TV and read up on this issue – contact your legislatures and complain – tell them you are REALLY concerned about such life threatening matters and you want action NOW!!!

P.S. In my year (2013) end memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will share how when visiting Switzerland in early 1990’s I became so enamored with The World Health Organization and other similar NGO [Non Government Organizations]  groups headquartered there – I wanted to live and work in Geneva. It passed but I still enjoy visiting and contributing to these very worthwhile groups in my own way – whenever possible!

Exemption Health Squads

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

health exemption blogObamacare – The Affordable Health Care Act  has brought out such extremist and bogus vitriolic statements that it is resulting in stomach turning need for medical attention if you are a sensible individual. While not perfect,  this iconic health care reform act creates more and REAL opportunity for each American to have decent and affordable medical insurance access than ever before in this nation’s history. For full disclosure sake, I admit to having assisted in a small way and have proudly displayed here on my blog in previous posts a signed Presidential certificate acknowledging my contribution to passing this legislation. Seems the Supreme Court agreed that it is constitutionally sound and yet we still have Congressional attempts to rescind it and even more troubling to me, are the bogus religious exemptions that non religious businesses are attempting to use in order to not cover birth control. Oh baby ( no pun intended), this is REALLY the proverbial “slippery slope” and trust me that none of us want to slide down that hill.

Lawsuits are being filed by self claimed religious business owners that manufacture wood cabinets and such stating that the ACA mandate to cover contraception [birth control] for their employees interferes with the freedom to practice their faith. The contraceptive mandate is being challenged as a protection of religious freedom and does not in my law school opinion present logical legal argument sufficient enough to be revisited by the judicial system. What next, claims that experimental and radical cancer therapies go against “G-d’s plan“? Lets consider treatment for HIV not being required to cover if you the employer are against homosexuality for religious reasons. These business owners claim their religious beliefs take precedence over President Obama’s Affordable Care Act – nope, not true folks – as long as the law has been deemed constitutional and does not cause one [a citizen] to act in an egregiously illegal amoral fashion, they must adhere to the standard. Now this does not mean I or the government can force a person to use birth control or get cancer treatment but it does absolutely require that you as an employer provide that for those in your hire.

Exemptions for religious organizations – like Catholic universities and charities – already exists; these employers, even of non Catholic people, do not have to provide that which is antithetical to their faith; although personally I am frightened as to where such a precedence can lead in Court challenges – one must give pause for thoughts concerning faiths like sects that belief ONLY in faith healing and no medical treatments. I ask you – would they too be allowed to deny all and any medical coverage to employees? We shall see because I guarantee those lawsuits will be forthcoming – sooner or later. Do not think my ideas are just hyperbole my dear readers – its already out there and being discussed in matters of pre-natal testing and more. The issue of whether a determinant pregnancy test will lead to choosing to end gestation is being suggested as reason for those employers that are anti-choice to opt out of that coverage as well. I could go on and on with examples that will prove exactly how frightening this scenario can become but for now I beg of you to not fall victim to faux pleads of religious freedom where health care is concerned … this great United States of America was founded on and demands REAL separation of Church and State – lets keep it that way, shall we???

P.S. In my year end (2013) memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! much will be discussed concerning my own in duct situ breast cancer, fertility treatments and more – how those might not have turned out so amazingly well for me (thank G-d) if religious zealots and those posing as such [and I REALLY know poseurs – as those of you who follow me regularly or are personal friends are aware of] had prevailed in similar fashion to what is being proposed at this time in our national dialogue!

Israel @65

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Israel_65A celebration of the birthing a nation – modern day Israel is celebrating 65 miraculous, amazing and gloried years. 2013 or 5773 (Hebrew) denotes a prospering and ever more world important Middle East country … no longer simply the homeland of my Jewish people, Israel is a tech center, arts venue, education mecca and vacation destination for all people. All who visit come away astonished at the level of sophistication that Israel presents – magnificent is the only apt description of this tiny and strong willed country. No one should think it naive when I state Israel strong now and forever … it is determined by G-d and assured by men and women who will not let Israel go asunder – we, the Jewish people of this world and those who support us will NEVER let Israel vanish from this world. You must visit – you too – no matter faith or national origin, will come way awe struck and in love with my proud ancestral homeland.

Without the obvious considerations – the facts of Israel being the homeland for my religion and ancestral heritage of Judaism – one must marvel at the social and economic growth of this REAL democracy during its short 65 year existence. Israel is not singularly a place for nor of one particular culture – yes, it is our Jewish homeland but many faiths, ethnicity and national origin people live and prosper there. Israel is a true international place … the business and financial aspects are multi national and welcoming. Scientific research, technological development  and academic scholarship nearly unprecedented. Education always foremost in Jewish life, is a mainstay of everyday life in Israel … no matter the surrounding stresses, the population adheres to high education standards and this, along with research and development in areas of science has produced unequaled major medical and world changing/life saving break through treatments. Stunning is the only superlative that correctly denotes the absolute abundance of progress in this small and most days besieged nation – where else and when else in history has such evidence of G-d’s REAL blessings been demonstrated. A miracle?  – perhaps but also a fierce and directed sense of righteous  placement and intrinsic knowing that this is as it should be allows for such accomplishments.

I love the idea of eclecticism – many of my blog posts have referenced my own family and individual life as being just that. Not surprising to me that Israel is that too – a multiple faceted and many disciplined nation. Art, fashion, science, technology, ecology, education, medicine,  religion,  travel,  music,  agriculture,  food,  entertainment,  textiles, architecture,  politics,  charity,  international involvement,   etc.,  etc.,  etc.  –  exhausting and dizzying but REAL and true as a description of all Israel does and offers. I am aware of sounding prideful – why not I ask – for is not this a place to boast of? The issue more important to discuss is why all REALLY good people do not see this as a blessed template from which all nations can learn – glean lessons? Israel should be studied and mimicked – for if we/they can survive and rally to such accomplished heights despite surrounded by sworn enemies, then why not others? Herein lies one of my constant refrains – if you read me regularly or know me personally, then you are aware of my personal gloried story of rallying and overcoming much – my thwarting of naysayers and defeating of nemesis only to REALLY have it all. Yet I, as Israel, remain vigilant and humble – always acknowledging those that assisted and made possible achievements from which I benefit greatly. Israel owes great debt to the United States but it is a mutually benefactor relationship and no one need think that anything less than synopsis between the two rules the day.

In my memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will share some of my 14 trips to Israel details – my plans to have a property there some day and why I was born on account of Israel being too. For now I say, HAPPY & BLESSED Birthday Israel … I REALLY LOVE YOU!!!

Vagina Crime Scene

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

CrimeSceneDressEver tuck a  zygote into bed, brush its teeth, give it a bath? Nope – you never have because you can not take a simple cell grouping anywhere outside its gestational host. I know – you are thinking Teréza is just being silly, vulgar, offensive and far too glib about the “sanctity of life“. I am NOT intending to give offense but what I am determined to do is highlight how utterly ridiculous and unscientific the so called Personhood Laws  being passed by legislators in  many U.S. States REALLY are. Listen ladies – here is a REAL fact: every time we have unprotected sexual relations while still and sometimes even not getting our menstrual cycles routinely, we can get and often are getting pregnant in that those good old swimmer spermatozoa and our eggs meet, connect and fertilize but that does NOT equal a person. No implantation occurs and even when it does may not gestate or begin cell division – hence no person exists – no potential person is happening in your uterus. Now here is the REALLY frightening part – you then get your period and it is not stretching these insane and arcane ideas about “personhood” to imagine that being punishable by felony laws. Yes my dears – arrest, tried and incarcerated because oh baby, if they find out that your sweet ass did anything to deter that full gestational happening from coming to live birth fruition – you doll are in handcuffs.

If you dare think I am exaggerating this scenario, ask Regina McKnight who in 2003 was sentenced to the reduced sentence of 12 years for “child endangerment/abuse” in that she “caused” her twins stillbirth from cocaine use. The law that was used to convict this woman states that a Mother causing death of a “viable fetus” can be prosecuted on homicide charges with possibility of life in prison as sentencing guideline. Causes they say – who determines what “causing” means exactly is only one concern we should all be focusing on when contemplating the implications of these anti-woman draconian laws.  Is not wearing a seat-belt and then miscarrying on account of an auto crash to be deemed neglectful endangerment and reason for homicide charges, how about smoking that cause high blood pressure, the issue of caffeine [coffee / tea / energy drink] also comes to mind as our Obstetricians warn not to consume too much; there are other situations that can result in ruptures of the placenta – such as risky extreme exercising and then we have things like sexual acrobatics that result in a fall or G-d forbid the pregnant lady goes out to fetch the morning newspaper during a ice storm and slips, only to then miscarriage her fetus.

OK – here is something even more egregious, more extreme and more dangerous than the personhood of zygotes theory. Yes – MORE than even that purely misogynistic and predatory idea – it is that so called “Pro-Life” advocates think my husband and I are guilty of genocide because we went to great expense and effort to achieve pregnancy late in life via IVF/IVM and some fertilized eggs  [by the way my own 50+ eggs and hubby’s 5 year younger than me, personally contributed sperm boys] did not get born. Never mind that as I explained at the beginning of this post, that happens routinely without reproductive assistance. Allow me to quote [paraphrase] these idiots: “If embryos are humans, then fertility clinics are death camps.”. This for me being Jewish is my absolute all time favorite bullshit analogy – you know when someone pulls THE Holocaust card out to prove their humanity; for me that ends the conversation because the REAL Jewish alive children that the bastard Nazis slaughtered were fully formed outside their dear Mother’s bodies – breathing, crying and more when the evil devils murdered them. How dare anyone ever compare a miscarriage or pregnancy termination procedure to a Jewish child being gassed, hung or Jewish infants being torn apart by their limbs.

Now I have – as a law student – the REAL solution: let us make all neglect, all denying of REALLY good nutrition , health care, housing and such to pregnant women a felony offense. That’s right – the officials and communities that do not provide all needed for a full and successful gestation of each and every fetus MUST be prosecuted for child endangerment. I demand equal law under our U.S. Constitution for zygotes and fetuses – any institution that turns away a pregnant women in need of that which will help her achieve a successful live birthed baby is to be considered complicit [aiding & abetting]  in that result, if not fully guilty of a crime. Sound crazy? Ask Ms. McKnight who just got released from prison after serving 8 of her original 20 year sentence – and in case you are interested, she was not released on account of wrongful prosecution in consideration of the original death to fetus by “child endangerment” – no, instead her lawyers managed to prove that her still-birthed twins perished as a result of a bacterial infection [which overturned her conviction] and not her drug use. If you think my analogized scenario is far fetched, then you might also want to chat with Melissa Rowland, who was arrested after one of her twins was still born and it was decided that occurred because she had refused a C-section.

To conclude this crime scene tutorial, I say you can be against choice for women in relationship to their right to carry or not to full term their pregnancies – of course, I REALLY believe it is none of your business, especially when termination is decided on to save the life of the Mother. What you must not be allowed to do my fellow Americans is make choice a crime nor the accidentally loss of gestation a punishable offense. In my memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! all the REAL and full details of just how REALLY determined my husband and I were to become parents will be explained – then you will realize just how “Pro-Life” I REALLY am!!!

… WOW – I feel like the “doink-doink” sound from the Dick Wolf television drama, Law & Order should be heard at this point in time  – well my darlings – hit the quote here & you can hear it now. Stay tuned – as always, I will have much more to share and this and many other topics. Be well, be happy and read my blog as often as you can – comments welcomed!

NO G-d in Tax Code and NO Exemption from Laws

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

politics-religionWe are on the proverbial “slippery slope” my friends concerning religious organization demanding exemption from the iconic Obama Health Care Reform Act [ACA] . Trust me that this will not work out well for faith based efforts in the end … no nation can exist or tolerate the dictates of a religious body – history has proven as much. The intermingling of religion and government will most surely hurt religion more drastically than visa verse. I, as a practicing Jew, want ALL faiths protected and to do that in a non homogeneous nation like the United States must mean no religious oversights to our laws. Only an adherence to civil  programs without the individual particulars of any one religious doctrine will guarantee a permanent and REAL safeguard for faith based institutions in our great country. It is without question America’s unprecedented heterogeneity in nationality, ethnicity, race and religion that is our REAL strength and glory – no one group must ever be allowed to determine or deny the whole of our diverse populace under the guise of religious freedom.

The tax exemption 501(c)(3) for any/all churches and religious organizations is a farce. By now, surely my readers have come to realize that my husband and I were forced to tolerate a bogus almost “ponzi schemed” group that claimed such status while dealing with his ex-wife; this woman claimed fake college degrees via this spiritual organization and even that she was becoming a minister through them and hence should not be mandated to contribute to her children financial [considering her supposed future ministerial low income work]. Does anyone seriously believe or accept that such a quasi religious organization should be allowed to claim tax exemption status? The question of what is and is not a REAL religion means that no faith should be allowed to opt out of civil taxes, for does not the faux faith based group give pause to those of REAL stature. In other words, who exactly decides the legitimacy of a particular religion? I say the members and as I want no control over others religions or they mine, we need to end this joint acceptance of faith get out of paying taxes scenario or face the eventual demonetization of one group by others. To REALLY preserve faith in America, we must ban religion from all government decisions. No I am NOT a socialist and most certainly not an atheist but only a realist – as a Jew, I am sadly only too aware of governments deciding which, if any faith rules the nation. To prevent yours or mine from being denied equal national status, all religions must sensibly agree to stop attempting legislation activity via the pulpit.

The very idea that the Catholic Church or Orthodox Jewish groups or any other group is attempting to opt out of paying or even allowing women access to coverage for birth control under the health care reform act is maddening – dangerous and unconstitutional. Law school 101 informs us in the Establishment Clause that government shall not promote any one religion in the United States – one must therefore ask, how is allowing opting out by a religion from a federal stature not endorsing that faith. Passive endorsement is still a form of promotion … by making an exception for any religious group, we the people of the United States of America are indeed making a statement that we agree with that faith’s promoted philosophies. My personal ideal is to REALLY protect all religions – the established ones and yes, even the fringe new age types – for is not my brother and sister’s right as precious as my own? Obviously, here in the United States the answer is undeniably yes. However, that does not mean I should be forced to finance that which I do not believe in – neither in the affirmative nor negative aspects. Nothing in the Obama administration health care laws/proposal forces any religion to actively or placidly support that to which their faith objects … no, no, no – the only REAL requirement is to offer any employee the personal option and choice for a particular medical coverage. There is no denying that women are the target of these demand exemptions by the church and others – no access to birth control coverage equals almost a form of female bondage and that can not be allowed in this country.

So my solution – for what it is worth – is all faiths pay taxes on property, income, etc.. If that happens then REAL consideration for private decisions concerning what an employee is offered can be logically discussed – until then, if my tax dollars are supporting your organization, my voted into office legislation decisions rule the day. Of course, as it stands now – religions still have tax exemptions and in that reality, we must insist all is equal as far as federal laws concerning health care coverage. No faith based organization is being forced to accept that which they find offensive but only and singularly to allow its employees equal rights under the laws – the same laws that govern each religion’s very existence here in this REALLY free nation!!!

P.S. In my end 2013 memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! I will REALLY detail why all things “under the law” matter so much to me!!

Your Scrotum Should Concern Our SCOTUS!!!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Not being sarcastic dear readers/followers … thinking if my vagina and reproductive organs are going to be the concern of the Supreme Court Of The United States should Romney win in November 2012 and therefore have the opportunity to place extreme anti-women judges on the highest court in our great nation – well then – right back at you Scrotum fellows. You see if we REAL Americans are to be REALLY equal, I believe it is only fair that male genitalia and male reproductive parts be included in our national conversations. Because darlings – if  my [considerably attractive] body gets chatted up by and to SCOTUS, then it dam well better be ditto for you guys.

The REAL meaning of sarcasm is a cutting remark  [distinguished from irony according to most authorities – NOT what a idiot under educated Michigan “impotent” loser guy thinks it means … I know, enough – even here I just can not help myself – those miscreant creeps are just so dam easy to mock, lol]  but my being clever or using a sarcastic tone here does NOT mean there is no seriousness to the issues concerning gender and other such matters. What is REALLY important  is the topic of why this November 2012 election matters so much in reference to the Supreme Court. Trust me – as you all know, Presidents, Senators, Congress persons come and go – in fact frequently but oh baby, the justices stay around for a very long time – a life time residency on SCOTUS is their term in office and we are ALL subjects of their very powerful realm. The laws of this great land affect each and every U.S. citizen for generations – daily life often determined and structured by what the Court decides – so it is an imperative issue that denotes you REALLY care about who the next president will nominate/place on SCOTUS … made even more important and relevant because a few of our current sitting Court members are aged and therefore will most likely need to be replaced in the next administration’s term.

In other blog posts concerning politics and women I have written about my feminist progressive wonderful parents, my devoted feminist husband [who you know by now legally took my last name/had our children do the same], my supportive feminist male friends and colleagues as well … my life made easier and blessed by these REALLY pro women individuals. By the way, not ALL my referenced feminist friends and family are liberal nor Democrats but what they ALL are is REALLY conscious and caring about the rights of women here in U.S. and throughout the world. How can a man or a woman for that fact deny that those who are female are again/currently under attack – our reproductive rights at great risk on account of right wing extremist GOP operatives who are determined to go all the way to the Supreme Court to deny women abortion and birth control and, as I was able to conceive through, assisted reproductive medical services. The REAL question is why – why – why would anyone want to control every of the most intimate and personal aspects of a woman’s life? What possible reason can justify denying a pre adolescent girl who conceives through violent rape – possibly via incest – the right to terminate that pregnancy? Likewise what could be the impetus to stopping a woman like myself – with my/my husband’s own funds – from pursuing having children by fertility treatments methods like IVF and IVM? It is so perplexing – difficult to even contemplate the true reasons that men and yes women want to deny these basic and most inalienable rights to America women and in fact women throughout this vast world. I am sure the answers are varied – some nefarious and others most probably coming from what those individuals perceive as G-d’s intent [although how anyone can REALLY know what G-d is thinking is beyond me]. Well no matter the explanation and justification for wanting to control all of women’s existence – it MUST not be allowed – because this is that proverbial “slippery slope” so often referenced in political and social arguments. We are at the Waterloo of our times dear ladies – to the men who REALLY love us too – this battle must NOT be lost to the extremist fanatics. Too much is at stake – it is far too frightening to accept a nation/a world where the female population must adhere to the dictates of a minority hell bent on full and total control in accordance with their own perceived views of morality.

In my blog post I Say Vagina & You Can Too!!! [19 June 2012] I discussed, among other issues, GOP types being offended that the word vagina is used by politicians addressing abortion rights, etc.. Really – are you kidding me? Someone finds an anatomical description offensive but not vaginal probes prior to a legal pregnancy termination decision by a woman – go figure – what some folks think G-d would find objectionable is beyond me. These same individuals – men and women alike – do not seem to be offended by the plethora of Viagra ads and such nor the overt sexually oriented TV shows and movies abundant in our society … not that there is anything wrong with those fine America products. Are you thinking what I am always thinking concerning this contrast – yes it is HYPOCRITES. So I want to help – help these extremist get right with G-d by making fair and even the playing field and I want to do that by making scrotum topical and of major judicial concern … you know codifying under the laws of this great nation what one [men] can and can not do with and to their scrotum/reproductive parts – those plentiful spermatozoon should have their day in court too.

On a more realistic note – we, women and men who love us – MUST vote for the Presidential candidate, as well as those running for Senate and Congress who will absolutely 100% protect and defend the rights of ALL Americans .., I believe, without partisan prejudice, that currently the ONLY choice is therefore to reelect Barack Obama and elect other Democratic candidates – including and especially women running for office in 2012 – like my dear and amazing friend Kristin Cabral for Congress in Virginia. PLEASE vote as if your life depends on it this November because it REALLY does this time. May G-d bless ALL Americans and this great nation!!!

P.S. In my tell ALL memoir, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! much will be included about the female AND male feminist in my life – how that REAL concern and determination that I and other women had FULL right and opportunities made my REALLY wonderful life possible – lucky me!!!

My Own 9/11 Story

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

“The Horror! The Horror!”, proclaims Kurtz in Joseph Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness. Yes, we all thought or spoke those words as watching that day’s events on 11 September 2001. I watched the second tower fall as turning in my private hospital suite bed after breast cancer surgery. A dear relative surgeon had arranged a lovely private extra large room and to have my private nurse be sure cable news was [as he knew I am a news junkie] on for me when I woke that morning – never realizing or imagining my eyes would open to see that horror and hear Bryant Gumbel saying this was probably no accident after all.

After my first wonderful husband, David Colin,  died in Spring 2000, I decided that doing a little – shall we say – sprucing up was in order. Being a life long runner, I felt my knees had become a bit chunky/muscular and that a breast lift might be nice as well. I had grown quite close to a distant relative [very talented] plastic surgeon and so I decided to ask what he thought – yes no problem but this dear man suggested that even though I  already had routine yearly mammograms, another pre-op was required. So off I went – mammogram complete, organizing all in order to have a week or two recovery time where biggest task would be finally reading all those wonderful books on my night table. Being a wee bit compulsive I scurried to and fro paying bills, stocking up on necessities and taking a friend’s idea to arrange staying at the Philadelphia Ritz Carlton while recuperating in order to have REAL [yes I got a miscreant hint in even here, lol] concierge assistance 24/7. Now some shopping needed to be complete – a doctor gal pal explained that I would be needing loose fitting front buttoning tops for easy access after breast lift surgery. While driving in my new 2001 adorable amazing gorgeous custom champagne colored XKR Jaguar convertible – yes, in love with my car – my cell phone rang and seeing relative plastic surgeon number, assumed a quick pre-surgery get together lunch date being offered. “Hello sweetie – are we getting together to break bread before you and I meet in operating room next week?”,  was my greeting. An unusually somber voice responded that yes but he wanted me to come to his office asap – I somehow knew instantly what was going on. I turned that sweet car around, headed across town, took elevator up to the beautiful office I had entered so many times before to be greeted by a teary eyed doctor. No question now – something very bad was happening. Obviously, by now, you readers must realize they had found cancer – fortunately it was in duct situ carcinoma , which is a rather mild form/early detected breast cancer, of one breast and in my 2013 book, Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! all that journey and more will be detailed. Suffice it to say that vanity saved my life and love of my surgeon friend made that journey much, much easier. Also, Ritz Carlton recuperation a very pleasant way to get back on one’s feet. Of course, the horrors of the 9/11 terrorism attacks not so easily remedied and that is why unlike many, when asked when my breast cancer surgery was – I answer precisely with day, date and even time – that day of national horror never erased from our collective world memory.

Well I fully recovered – knees, buttocks [yes had that lifted too] and breasts looking better than ever. The two years that followed however, just like our nation after 9/11, presented some serious and for me, unexpected challenges. I, as always, must remain vague here and simply ask for your patience, as my 2013 book will detail fully the entire story – much to be learned by everyone and inspiration as well for those who read my story. I hope and pray that my complicated and triumphant journey will help others overcome and rally to their own great destiny. One of the main reasons my amazing second husband, Chester Michael Eliasz-Solomon agreed I should sign a book deal was how many folks we believe my story will give guidance to and that many will be made better for knowing that like myself, they too can thwart all enemies, fight against those who lie and hate and go on to find true happiness against the odds. My darling hubby has always called my Tereza Triumphant ™ – in fact, among our now owned 28 trademarks/copyrights is that too. So here we are at my next 9/11 saga – meeting the love of my life.

Oh my, so sorry my darling readers and followers but vague again I must be about the exact circumstances of how and where I met my amazing second husband but trust me that as my self titled “team” [lawyers, advisers, publicist, et al.] constantly say, it is definitely a REAL Oh My G-d love story – one surely to go down as great in the annals of timeless romances. What I will share in reference to the historical date this writing is about is that on 9/11 2003 my man proposed [in his Jaguar] with a magnificent diamond ring he designed and a poem he wrote that referenced the tragedy both nationally and personally for me that occurred on 11 September 2001  – his proposal speech included how he hoped that I would agree to make him happier than he ever thought possible by agreeing to marry him on this the same calendar date 2003. YES, YES, YES  I instantly responded seeing my new engagement ring through tears of joy. WOW – what a guy – right? And so it is that each year on 9/11 we two thank G-d that our love has grown and that in remembering those who perished and all the heroes from the tragedy of 9/11, our coming together as man and wife and the children our union has created is a stick in the eye of those devils that wanted to destroy this great nation – for we two and our children represent, as I believe my Jewish people do concerning the Holocaust, G-d’s design that good does REALLY triumph over evil!!!

P.S. My breast cancer experience was made much easier because of my insurance coverage, access personally to REALLY good doctors, funds for private nurses and yes being able to pay for staying at the Ritz Carlton to recuperate. In my blog post Why ACA Is Obama’s FDR Moment!, I discuss and even show my signed by President Obama framed certificate thanking me for my participation in passing that ground breaking health care bill. One of my plans is donate a part of my books proceeds to and continue to work for ALL women to have similar health care options – maybe I can not put you up at the Ritz but I surely, with other determined like minded individuals, get you mammograms and the best possible medical care that you can find. Both my husband and I are devoted feminist – committed to saving women from the draconian current crop of GOP cuts – PLEASE join us in November 2012 and vote out/against those who would deny any woman her rightful health care coverage!!!

Plastic AND Inspiringly Fantastic !!!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Beauty is an outward gift which  is seldom despised, except by those to whom it has been refused

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

This topic was always on my blog list – meant to be a primer and suggestive piece concerning sometimes necessary and often elective cosmetic treatments and plastic surgery. Along with the procedures done by choice or to correct an injury or birth defect, I had planned to discuss one of my long admired heroes – the pioneering British reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Harold Gilles who worked on WWI soldiers – often allowing these brave men to live a life back in society after horrific mutilating injuries. But for now, the tonality of this post must be more pointed because as my readers and followers surely know by now, the well described miscreants have once again come to the fore by spreading [actually quite humorous according to some of my advisers] lies and misrepresentations in relationship to my appearance. Here again, I am unable to detail as I truly wish I could – still muted by ongoing [Fall] litigation, recent possible civil criminal charges against these misanthropes and the happier reason of my 2013 book: Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! obligations. What I can explain is that one of the NEW lawsuits being filed is on account of their suggestion of my having extensive plastic surgery in order to “hide” – I know – funny isn’t it? I am writing a blog, having two books published soon, being considered for a TV and radio show, preparing for magazine and newspaper interviews plus I am on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, working on/owning over twenty trademarks, copyrights and patents with my brilliant husband – that is some attempt at hiding on my part. A few of my close friends and associates thought I should be flattered as one of these suspected lie spewing creatures once wrote that her friends thought I  could only look like I do at my age on account of having had procedures. The other more recent belly laugh we got was their suggesting that my hair was a wig … as my husband said so astutely – to these women and their husbands, etc. my almost daily professionally coiffed hair does look so good compared to their obvious wash and wear dos, they probably really think I wear a wig. The more serious reason my attorneys are filing further cyber law charges, et. al. in reference to what might seem frivolous, is the miscreants were suggesting the plastic surgery and wig was an attempt to deny something. Again – funny as I am doing everything possible to have a public presence. Go figure …. just when you think there can be no more ignorance possible, they remind us they are there.

Here is my proud admittance to a life where being well cared for was a must do – nutrition, exercise, skin and dental care just a start. Yes, I have had braces twice, caps/veneers, gum shaping, a real deviated septum nose procedure, and later in life breast augmentation, liposuction and a few years ago facial thermage. Some of these were health related – braces, nose operation, other dental work and others beautifying/anti aging maintenance work. Here is where it gets interesting – I will share a small part of a life changing plastic surgery story and of course the rest in my 2013 memoir book.

After nearly twenty one years of marriage to a wonderful loving man [first marriage – I happily remarried in 2003] I was widowed in the spring of 2000. Having cared for my parents a decade earlier and then my husband during his last months of life, I decided to have a dear friend/distant cousin brilliant plastic surgeon “spruce” me up  a bit. Part of the impetus was my being a life long athlete – fanatical runner – which I felt, while in addition to keeping me healthy, had bulked up my legs, etc.. These issues thus directed me in my decision to have a  breast lift and some body sculpting liposuction. All was planned and scheduled. In preparation it was decided that I should have an additional mammography test  … I had my annual around nine months prior but just to be on the safe side my doctor friend thought it a good idea to have another. You can almost guess what happen next. While driving in my magnificent 2001 XKE convertible Jaguar, my cell phone rang – doctor calling. Because we were close buddies, I initially thought it was to have a social chat or plan a social event but instead it was to ask me to meet him at his office stat and so it was that [after many more steps] I was diagnosed with in duct situ carcinoma of one breast. Of course there are many more details and dramatic times to be shared in my book but here is one of the most poignant – I was operated on the morning of 9/11 and woke to see the second tower of  The World Trade Center hit on TV news in the beautiful suite that doctor buddy had arranged for me. I decided to discuss this a bit in this particular post so I can contrast my 9/11 experience to another woman’s 9/11 “beauty” related day. I was moved to include Lauren Manning’s poignant story on account of the far too often referenced miscreants. You see while chatting with a West Coast attorney about how to proceed against these misanthropes, I turned to the far end of my study to  look out the window and my eye caught sight of my book pile [always reading 5 or 6 at a time] – there near the bottom was Lauren Manning’s book, Unmeasured Strength. I knew insistently that for this day and this one more needed legal action my attorney and I were then discussing, this woman was going to be my inspiration. My thought was that how dare anyone think that I would ever allow loathsome insignificant bottom dwelling hateful people to deter me from triumph, when this brave women went through hell to thwart the terrorist of 9/11 in order for her to be beautiful again after nearly having her face and body destroyed in a fire ball at the bottom of the Twin Towers and then she,  like me,  went on to [we are preparing to by year end] have another child via gestational carrier. My friends and family have heard me say many times that I plan to write another book titled with some configuration of vanity saved my life because if not for the decision to have a bit of “work” done, no mammogram would have been on my to do list for at least another six months – possibly meaning my very curable cancer would have spread or morphed into a more life threatening disease. After reading Lauren Manning’s book, I realized that her 9/11 was my breast cancer in that both were circumstances out of our control but neither of us allowed those horrors to deter us from being REALLY beautiful. Not wanting to be too dramatic here – suffice it to say that both the brave Ms. Manning and I are, unlike the enemies each of us face, really beautiful survivors and both of us stronger and more invisible on account of being forced to deal with evil. By the way, I am forwarding a thank you and this blog post to Lauren Manning – with gratitude for reinforcing that women like her and women like myself are obligated to teach the world what it means to be the kind of good woman, with supportive husbands, friends and colleagues who no matter how disgusting our enemy is determined to be nor their effort to be destructive is, overcomes every obstacle and go on to a glorious life.

Now for the fun part – oh baby, I have and will do everything possible to stay healthy and beautiful for as many years as I am cognitive enough to exercise, be vigilant about my nutrition and have all the cosmetic, reconstructive/plastic surgery procedures safely and appropriately required. Why would I not, within reason and educated choices, take full advantage of the ever more perfected anti-aging procedures? In the BBC series The Human Face, the fact of facial recognition and the effect of appearance on every aspect of life is discussed … we present to the world an edifice to define us. Here I must mention that it is true, while outside appearances give first impressions, internal disease and even mean or unhealthy mental attitudes do somehow show on the face and will cause one to appear very unattractive no matter what the facial features are. This BBC analyse shares the facts about psychology, beauty, sexuality and appearance … being attractive has a definite pay off and so it is that I laugh at the misanthropes who, while one of them may at least seem to occasionally use a blow dryer and could pass for mildly attractive [enough hints my dear readers?], deny or denigrate those of us who take care to stay youthful. In the recent 2012 HBO documentary About Face, the so called Super Models of twenty or thirty years ago discuss their journey in the land of extreme and objectified beauty. While driving and listening to my constant companion, NPR, I heard the principles from this documentary and was reminded that my very wise Mother suggested that each of her girls [myself, the daughter and four grand daughters] be conscious of taking good care of our health and appearance … Mother called it good bones and  also told us to be equally on task in learning and growing through education, career, hobbies and interest. As I have written in other blogs, I owe my parents so much for the life style template and realistic explanations of what it takes to have a full and long life that includes happiness and fulfillment. So when the losers attempt to suggest I have or will have or am having “work” done for some nefarious reason …after the belly laugh and calls to attorneys and dear publicist, I walk by a mirror and say, dam right I have and will but only for the best of reasons, which include having my darling husband admire me each and every day.

Hear me loud and clear enemies of mine: I ALWAYS had planned to get more “work” done and now especially after gestating later in life, body sculpting liposuction and the full face lift will be completed as soon as a few “housekeeping” issues are settled [asap]. And so, let me say once again … to whom it may concern/those much too often referenced miscreants, evil doers, misanthropes and envious ugly hater types – you can kiss my gorgeous, couture clothed, toned, well cared for [proud Jewish] ***!!!

P.S. I have already begun to gather information and discuss with medical professional and breast cancer organizations in preparation for another book – after my end 2012 book of essays and end 2013 memoir published – called Vanity Saved My Life. This will be about my breast cancer journey and more importantly include advise and information for women to assure they get check ups and can access cancer care. The plan is for proceeds to go to breast and other female cancer research, as well, as funds for women who might need financial help while struggling with cancer.

The Feminist Fertility Toolbox™

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Your having a (my) baby – a woman like you [my dear hubby always expressing his gratefulness that is was a woman LIKE ME having his babies] … yes, that is a line from an old Paul Anka song but for those of us who have struggled with fertility issues it is a thank you G-d moment when the OB states that as fact. For myself and my husband, it was a costly, time consuming and an often uncomfortable process  – succeed we did but oh baby it was quite a journey. Ours was not only fraught with the physical, financial issues and consideration of my advance maternal age but we had to deal with lies and slander [lawsuits being filed this Fall] about our situation … of course, the ignorant are always out there – as one of my attorneys asked, don’t they read, watch TV or google? His reference was to the fact that many – not only myself – woman past 50 get pregnant and gestate successfully; some from donor eggs  [was option we considered but we were blessed with my own still being viable] and others via surrogate and/or gestational carrier [our next plan after our twin sons are a  little older – we want to have a gestational carrier for our remaining embryos]. By the way, as link I have included explains – there are quite a few women past 50 who got pregnant naturally. Of course, as I advise my younger women friends – do not look to me as a reason to wait – I got lucky and would have been accepting of other options. The other thing that I luckily had was good insurance and the most amazing support system [husband, colleagues and friends] in the world. I want everyone to have choice and opportunity in the baby arena and so I will inform and entertain as best possible in this blog post.

Now – why did I title this blog post with one of the trademarks my husband and I now own … it is quite simple – both he and I are feminist [he and our children legally took my last name as of January 2012] and we truly believe everyone has the right to determine when and how she or he does or does not have children. Trust me – those who oppose choice concerning pregnancy termination also oppose fertilty/reproductive assisted treatments. You have heard the rhetoric about G-d’s will and not wanting to interfere with the divine plan as the zealots see it to be. As a devout practicing Jew, I see G-d’s divine plan as having made available the marvelous doctors and technology that allowed my husband and I to have the children we always wanted. I tell everyone to take full advantage no matter age to make their dream of having children come true – no method should be left unexplored. Most important – as it was for my husband and I – do NOT let anyone, for any reason deter you from your dream of becoming a parent … no matter what form or route, it is worth it.

Possibilities to consider include not only egg donors, gestational carriers but surrogacy, IVF, IVM and of course, for women without male partners or if  their husband has medical issues, sperm banks. For gay or same sex couples, these same possibilities exist. There are also more and more options for women who face illness/cancer therapies that will render them infertile … Ovarian preservation or egg retrieval/freezing prior to treatments are frequently suggested by physicians for those facing that situation. As I already referenced one of the reasons my husband and I trademarked The Feminist Fertility Toolbox and care so deeply about the right of choice,  is that there are those who believe they can and must decide if any and for whom these advanced medical procedures are made available. In other words, politics and not intercourse or a doctor visit will determine who and how babies are made. Definitely an OMG thing to consider, don’t you think???  When we decided to try again [having miscarried early in our marriage nine years ago] to create the family both of us wanted so desperately, my husband and I laughed at the almost dictatorial suggestions by SOME [not those who really love us] that we might want to reconsider on account of our ages, etc.. My husband wanted children so badly, he became angry in thinking those folks had children but somehow thought they could persuade us not to – of course, there were our dear loving REAL friends and extended family who only worried that after our other miscarriages, more heartbreak would devastate us. Like all that seems happens in our life, these amazing people pledged their support once we made it clear we were moving forward in our quest to have children. Many held my hand, took middle of the night calls, drove with me to doctors appointments, thwarted our frequently mentioned enemies and bought the most beautiful baby gifts in the world to fill the nursery for our twin sons.

In some countries, insurances cover fertility treatments  … here in the U.S., only a few tests and procedures are paid for by insurance. One of our goals is to establish a fund to assist others like ourselves who want to pursue the medical options to get pregnant that are so expensive – hoping to seed this with donations from my books, etc. and from other like minded and generous people who know how much having children can mean. This idea actually came from a Main Line [Philadelphia] couple who have a similar organization that helps those wanting to adopt but do not have the funds to pursue that option. We get back to politics here  … in this great nation there are the anti choice zealots who not only want to eliminate pregnancy termination options [even in cases of incest, rape or threat to Mother’s life], cut most prenatal and childhood programs but also do not support insurance companies covering fertility treatments and some others who think adoption should be limited to certain types of couples [not gay for instance]. The proverbial slippery slope is in front of us concerning having  babies …as with all those other slides toward dictatorial policies, we – people of good sense – must remain vigilant and NEVER allow others to determine how a family is created or by whom!!!

P.S. As in other blog posts, I promise details, photos and such – about EVERYTHING, including our children, – after litigation this Fall and definitely in my 2013 book: Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life! Hope to see all my readers [now nearly 4,000] at bookstore signings, in the audience when they interview me on TV shows [need to start watching myself – mostly know what is on TV from reading about it at this point] but for now you can “Chat With Tereza” via email by going to my picture next to blog posts. Stay tuned – this is getting REALLY interesting!!!

Le Petit Trianon And Why Architecture DOES Matter!

by Teréza Eliasz-Solomon (HeiressMommy™)

Un endroit tres special … toi seul –  For Queen Marie Antoinette that was Le Petit Trianon and for others no more than a small room or alcove. No matter the style, location or size a special place that one can call their own seems as important to happiness as love. It seems that the French Queen was in that sense very much the same as anyone else in needing and seeking that sort of  joy and security. In that pursuit she embraced and redesigned extensively the Versailles addition that was originally designed as a gift for Louis XV’s maitresse-en-titre, Madame de Pompadour, who died before its completion and so it was subsequently given to her successor, the most famous French mistress, Madame du Barry. It was the  following French King, Louis XVI who gave Le Petit Trianon to his teenage Queen whose legacy has been defined by both truths and misrepresentations. In fact, Le Petit Trianon was criticized by her French peers as being too foreign – often being called “Little Vienna” or “Little Schonbrunn” – a reference to her powerful mother, the only female ruler of the Hapsburg dynasty, Maria Theresia‘s palace – where Marie Antoinette herself was born. As history informs us, Marie Antoinette was both loved and despised during her life – thus finding both a place for celebration and solace in her beloved  Petit Trianon. [By the way, during my visits to France I visited all of Versailles – including Petit Trianon and more … I will detail this and more of my travels, including photos,  in upcoming blog posts and my now REALLY soon book: Heiress Mommy … A Modern Super Woman Life!].  There are American Castles – places of grandeur designed as testimony to great wealth achieved mostly during America’s Gilded Age – I have visited many, including Newport’s famed The Breakers and Vizcaya in Miami. For myself, it began with my own childhood playroom and later a study that was my singular separate space and then of course as an adult my own homes provided more special areas I considered important – a gym, a garden or private dressing area. My husband and I recently have become able to look forward to being multi residential  – both of us are thrilled and full of wonderful anticipation at the prospect of working with architects and designers to create special unique spaces for each of us and our children. In each life – no matter where in this world – there is a necessitous impetus to create or find that area where comfort,  security and peace can be experienced. The task at hand has been and is ever more to make public and private places that every citizen has access to in order to achieve a balanced life to whatever extent possible.

I often reference all my parents taught and gave me in my blog posts – again, I must acknowledge their teaching that one should take full advantage of public spaces – making an effort to see and experience museums, parks, public libraries and all venues available wherever one lives or visits. I too want my children to make a conscious effort to seek out places of both grandeur and simplicity. For some there is no personal directive toward this lesson but it none the less should be, if not intrinsically known, then taught via public service outreach and/or through education [in schools, etc.]. We must provide public spaces – which serve as social gathering places. Throughout history into current modernity there have been parks, town centers and squares that afforded populations a place to congregate and more – often serving as markets, meeting venues and places of both worship and justice [or lack there of] and  punishment. The suburbs, unlike cities have not provided many gathering public or communal spaces … grant it quite a few are near parks but the very act of needing to drive for access denies the basic intent – that is to dwell freely in a shared area with neighbors or simply to easily seek solitary refuge. Rural areas provide, while not as plentiful as cities, meeting places on account of the basic need to join with others in common spaces – living far apart almost demands a town hall, a fairground or place of worship to gather. Of course, city, suburb or farm/ranch the new town square is social media – while to some extent a place of shared experience or reprieve from others, the internet is not architecture and therefore provides nothing to soothe the soul or attend to our other senses. Of course, I would be remiss if I did not mention that my husband and I take great advantage of the internet in pursuit of homes, vacations, design, etc. – there is without a doubt the most amazing access to all the world’s beauty, art and architecture via the internet. The problem lies in that being the only and singular outlet for some – whether by choice or circumstance. To never walk through a museum, sit in a public park, stroll around a town square or trek through a national preserve is to be denied a human basic experience – the outdoors and the interior places created by joined human effort are equally important venues that are almost a biological imperative to sustain life. We have seen people flock to common spaces for triumph celebrations like national holidays and also to share in tragedies like 9/11 – this need appears to be intrinsic and almost part of our DNA. Vigilance must be maintained to how and why and where architecture can make a difference in all lives.

For some time it has been an accepted fact that hospital design affects a patient’s health – not just the obvious cleanliness and well placed equipment/safety consideration but also the colors, furniture styles and art placement can contribute to or detract from the overall outcome of an individual’s hospital stay. There are also the staff and families and friends visiting that can benefit from the architecture of a medical center. Another important  architecture issue is schools – studies have shown that learning is more easily done in well designed areas and less strife and disruption among students is noted when a school is not only efficiently laid out but is attractive and in tune with all the senses. Teachers are equally affected and have expressed an ability to demonstrate more patience and energy in their dealings with students when the building/their work place is attractive and healthy.  Sadly, public schools are falling victim, like most municipality financed venues, to budget cuts these days – penny wise and dollar foolish for sure as how and where our children learn is paramount to a successful future., Why should only those of us whose children can financially afford private school have a learning atmosphere that promotes achievement? Yes, it is true – as I am so often reminded by skeptics – that in the “old days” many of our most prominent U.S. and world citizens schooled in less than attractive buildings [to say the least]. As my wise Mother was fond of stating – there were no really “good old days” just old days gone by … those much championed and incorrectly remembered halcyon days were also full of segregated and bland places of public education. Granted some students rose above and achieved greatness – most probably [as is often cited in memoirs and biographies] on account of family, clergy or a special teacher or maybe even something uniquely internal gave that person an advantage despite the surroundings where they went to school. Today is different and it is imperative that everything possible be done to architecturally design places of learning that are stimulating, healthy and attractive.

Major cities in the Unites States and other countries are now creating well designed and attractive affordable public and subsidized housing  … major architects are getting involved in the effort to create better and healthy single living spaces for the financial disadvantaged citizenry among us. One plan has produced integrated and various  level income housing communities, while other initiatives have created buildings with the single goal of affordable small but well designed living units … all geared toward a better quality of life. The outcome has demonstrated not only a better result for inhabitants of these well designed  low income units but for the community in general –  legal, medical and sociology experts have studied and agreed that living in a better environment produces individuals more physically and mentally healthy and there is decreased crime and as such less cost/expense to others. Even public transportation throughout the world has been addressed by architects – the stations are now multiple purposed in many places, offering amenities and services, as well as a safer environment. There really is no part of human existence that can not be made better by design and that is why architecture really DOES matter – in many ways and for many reasons!!!

P.S. A previous blog about our Labarador, Princess Java Argus surely expressed how much we consider her family – as such the plan for our new residence is that she & the second Labrador we are planning to add to the Eliasz-Solomon family, Princess Kava Pompeii have their own separate home [not dog house] with full amenities for times when parties or chaos make it uncomfortable or unsafe for pooches to be in main house …so, it goes without saying, we take architecture seriously!!!
